This was such a fantastic way to show your creative side
This was such a fantastic way to show your creative side! I had so much fun building this. It had no instructions, but after i looked up a few dimensions, it was easy! I used wood glue and super glue to keep everything in place. I did need to use a drill to get a hole in for some of the screws, but I was expecting that. Great sound. Surprising since it's a diy. Of course the strings go flat within 2 seconds, like most new stringed instruments, but stretch them out and they hold a decent tone! Loved it.One thing I did to put the fingerboard down was I used clips to hold it worked well.

Decent diy projects with decent sound... With a few adjustments.
I recently purchased one of these to make a gift for some one. I'll start with the good points. It was exactly as advertised a simple to build diy kit for a tenor uke. The body and neck are easily glued together, the body is solid, and when fully constructed it has a nice time to it. I normally play and Ibanez tenor uke and the sound from this diy kit is close to the sound of my $300 daily play. The negatives... The neck and fret board are not well matched, after glueing it up I had to shave down and sand the neck to get them to match without a lip, this wouldn't affect playability but it would make it a little uncomfortable with certain chords. The neck was also a little rough so I had to use some fine grit sand paper to smooth it out, this is not a hard thing to do and I don't count it against the overall quality of the kit. The tuning pegs were not great, I ended up replacing them with some I had laying around the house. The provided tuning pegs actually came apart while tuning it. The strings provided were also not great but decent uke strings are cheap so again, not really an issue. I would gladly recommend this to some one looking to make their own uke with the warnings above. All the little inconsistencies do not take away from the overall value of this kit. If you are looking for a professional grade ukulele, this ain't it, but if you're looking for something to sit around a camp fire and play with a group of friends, for the price and with a little skill, this will definitely get the job done.

I had a blast creating this!
I love projects, especially building things when wood is involved. I already have two ukes but bought the Concert size kit from Zimo for fun. I took my time doing it and love how it turned out! I chose to stain mine, two colors, added a logo, and made sure to finish coat it as well. I'm sure anyone and everyone would have fun building this no matter how easy or elaborate you make it. Yes, the directions are not very easy to follow, even contradictory at times, just make sure to use the overall length between the bridge and the nut for the size you bought. The ZIMO how-to video is also really helpful to watch. Have fun doing yours!

It's a good kit and lots of fun
I've purchased a dozen or so of these kits, 4 for myself and the rest for students who I have do the art work and build them in my guitar class. These kits go together nicely -- not had a problem yet. Knowledge of woodworking/guitar making is minimally necessary. You will need to drill pilot holes for the screws, clamp some parts together after you glue them, and most importantly place the bridge in the right spot. I've experimented a bunch with different finishes, different paints for art and have determined that a person who is a good artist could make bank doing these. There is a ton of info on decorating ukes if you check Pinterest or Reddit in particular. The pics have artwork done with acrylics and spray clear coat. The sound also is not half bad. In my classroom I have the typical low end Lanakai, Kala and Diamond Head ukes and these sound as good in my opinion even with the included strings. It's the kind of project you want to do again and give to people.

On the bridge, use bigger screws and glue
The quality of the parts was fine. The fretboard was a little sharp on the sides, so I sanded the sides gently with 220 grit. The fretboard also had a little curve to it, so I made sure to keep clamps on while gluing it to the neck. Building was not too difficult, although the directions are a bit sparse and I could not find the online video they referred to in the directions. The real problem came today after it was built when I strung it up and tuned it. My niece was playing it and there was a loud SPRUNG. The bridge screws pulled out completely. I would recommend larger screws and glue to hold the bridge down. The directions don't say to glue the bridge, but I would.

This kit is well worth the money for the experience and the instrument!
I’ve been playing ukulele since 2007 and I’ve owned everything from the toys to the $350 exotic wood models. I’ve purchased and gifted countless ukuleles as well.I’ve played many, but never built one! This was a roll of the dice...I bought it as a “quarantine project” to keep myself busy. It was fun, educational, and allowed for an enormous amount of creativity. It holds up against my $350 Lanakai ukulele....the wood is lower quality, but the intonation is on point. I will buy this again...and I will give these kits as gifts going forward. I am SO impressed.Your hands on learner will take pride in their work and will also learn a new skill - highly recommended!

Great idea. Product is trash.
Instructions are not step by step. More like general guidelines. Manual refers you to an online video for assembly. Video is horrible and offers not much help. Its sad to say even the google translated instructions from other Chinese products are better than this. The product is not 21" as described. The body is substantially smaller. The fret overlay is 1/8" narrower than the neck, but 1" longer than the neck. This causes the fretboard to hand in the air at the headstock which makes the nut float in the air. The heel of the neck is taller than the actual body of the ukulele so either they shipped me the wrong neck or the wrong body. I had to cut 3/4" off the heel to make it flush with the body. The strings are stretchy plastic which means it can't hold a tune more than a few seconds. My daughter spent hours painting a clouds on the body making it nice. But now its just a display and not an instrument. A ukulele from a 99 cents store can hold a tune and sounds better than this POS.
