It is a latching relay, correct ? Manual resetting is necessary.

i was not able to manually reset. once it trips, it will stay tripped until it dries out. There is no override.

Is this device UL listed?

No, this device is not listed or it would have a clearly printed nrtl label. The Furguson one is ETL listed and clearly shows it.

Can I install this in line with the existing float switch for double protection?

I think this is a 2 amp maximum contact closure. You might need to wire in a relay to take the load.

can a defective one be cut to turn on air conditioning until I can buy a replacement

If you are handy with electrical system, it shouldn’t be a big deal to by pass the switch. It should be the orange and white wires that need to be connected together. You have to turn the power off before doing any work. And you have to be sure that your system uses the orange and white wires. Open up your furnace panel to confirm before doing any work.
