Does this keep Fruit flies away and out of the kitchen?

Love mine, but No. Most of the fruit flies are already hatching in the fruit scraps you put in there. Leave a small cup with vinegar on the counter to catch your fruit flies and take your compost out to your outdoor bin regularly.

Are there slots for screw heads to slide in on the back, or other way to hang it? Also, can the filters be composted!?

There are no slots for screw heads in order to hang it. I suppose you could hang it by the handle. I'm not sure about composting the filters. They feel very much like plastic to me.
