Great Sounding Ukulele at a Great Price
I bought this uke after coming back from Hawaii. Hearing it at every restaurant and shop made me crave its sweet sound.I play guitar, so I knew I loved the sound of ebony wood, and the look of this ukulele was just beautiful. The sound is quite bright, and very snappy. It's a well built ukulele, so fears of buying a cheap instrument should not worry you.Tenors are a good size for someone with big hands like me. They offer a full sound, with that classic ukulele vibe, at a size that is very playable, especially if you have experience playing guitar or other stringed instruments. The only complaint I have is that for some reason, the uke I was shipped did not have the abalone rosette around the sound hole it was supposed to have, but it's only a minor flaw, and its absence would not be noticed if you were not expecting it to be there.Kala is a good, consistent brand. If you want a great sounding mid-range ukulele, you will not go wrong with this one.

This is a GORGEOUS, WARM Sounding Ukulele with a great sound
The Kala Ebony is breathtaking. I'd been playing for two years on a decent, but starter ukulele (the Hola deluxe, which I recommend for beginners), and wow. This was an upgrade. The sound is warm, but loud, the action is perfect, there is no fret buzzing. This is, of course, a tenor, which offers more frets for fingerstyle and jazz chords. This is more taxing on your hands if you have medium to small hands. If you fall into either of those categories, I'd start out with a soprano to make learning the fingering much easier. If you have very large, thick hands, this is the one for you. I'm a fairly advanced player, and my fingers do tire playing this. But boy, the sound is worth it. And the look of it. It is a little bit brighter than the picture, and more dynamic than just dark. It's gorgeous. Overall, I highly recommend.

Excellent instrument
I am enjoying playing this instrument and felt it was a good value when I purchased it on sale here.It is well put together with a really nice nut and strung with good Aquila Nylgut strings installed and a strap button.Earlier I tried the slightly less expensive Kala KAT tenor ukulele and it just wasn’t for me as an intermediate level player so spent a little more.In a perfect world for my fingers it could be better with another few millimeters of width to the nut and another tad of neck length

Beyond the amazing visual presentation of natural wood and colors that just flow perfectly, the sound is amazingly bright with a big punch that is earthy and natural. The whole neck plays with ease. It was either perfect out of the factory or very well set up by the seller. Zero buzzes and the action is nice and low. I have many custom Ukuleles made of Koa from the best of the Hawaiian makers and this Ukulele sees more action than those for 3 reasons. The sound is natural, the Ebony looks amazing and I can take it anywhere without worrying about damaging something that will cost me 2 grand to replace.

It's a kala uke
This is the third kala ukulele I've purchased and the idea that one kala ukulele is vastly superior over an other might be a stretch. I'm happy with the fit and finish of this ukulele.

Great Uke, but change the strings for best sound
Well packaged and arrived safely with no damage. This is a full sounding ukelele, and it came fairly well set up as far as string height goes. It's decently loud as far as ukeleles go and has a very natural sound to it, especially considering it's a laminate build and not solid wood. That said, it's much less temperamental when it comes to humidity than the solid wood ones. I switched to Aquila Super Nylgut strings and they were a big improvement over the Aquila NEW Nylgut strings that came with it.
