Tangle Art: A Meditative Drawing Kit

I am surprised by so many negative comments about this product. I would like to first note that this kit costs $12! I am unsure what people were expecting to receive for this price. A small, well written, easy-to-follow book, tiles, pens and pencils. Wow - a deal!! Yes, I suppose if you were an experienced zentangler this wouldn't do much for you - but the title does say "to get your started." I absolutely love this kit. It was perfect to get me started. I don't think I need to purchase any other zentangle products. I found cheaper tiles, pens I like better, and books and tutorials at the library and online. And I continue to refer back to the small book to refine my skills and technique. I imagine it will take me a very, very long time to master all the techniques in the book. So, buy, enjoy, and tangle on!

Worthy of 4.5 Stars, but Amazon only gives me full-star options. I like this book much better than the book in the original Zentangle kit for two reasons. Primarily because of the larger page size, this book is much easier to read. The second reason I like this book is because the explanations are better for some of the tangles. Of 25 tangles explained in this book, eight are also included in the original kit. Yes, that was a bit of a let-down. Seventeen tangles from this book are not included in the original book, though they may (at least in part) be featured on the internet somewhere. I know that's true of at least one tangle.Of the 24 tangles included in the book from the original Zentangle kit, a full half are shown in the back of the book, with no step-by-step instructions at all. That lack of steps was a disappointment when I purchased my kit several years ago. Some of those tangles are among the 8 tangles featured in the original book that are also in this book, so I'm happy about that.As to the pens, pencil, & other items rolling around on top of the book - mine don't. They stay put fairly well right now, but I just got this item today. We'll see in a year or so how that plastic box holds up; I don't expect much in that department. I do like my pencils to be long so they are easier to hold and use - such as the one included in this kit, but a pencil is a small matter around my home... As an artist specializing in graphite pencil drawings, I have several pencils of all grades within reach most of the time, except when I travel.The quality of the official Zentangle tiles is on a par with the quality of the tiles included in this kit. The tiles are one of the reasons I got this kit, since good quality paper is expensive. I have 23 official Zentangle tiles left that are unused, and, now, 20 tiles from this kit, which adds up to more tiles than the official kit started with. That makes me happy.While the eraser isn't part of the official Zentangle tenet, I may use it anyhow to clean some of my original tiles for re-use, as I don't care for the way they were working out, and thus never finished them... and no, I didn't use ink in my first ventures.This kit is recommended for beginners at Zentangle, but if you're looking for something more advanced in the area of tangles, this kit may not be for you.

I am definitely hooked on this. I needed to calm down considerably and just couldn't find a way to do so that was satisfying. This art form is doing the trick. In fact, I just got a shipment of about all of the rest of them that are on the market. Now if that isn't a recommendation I certainly don't know what would be.

I looked forward to this book because I love the author's book, "One Zentangle a Day." When the kit arrived I was in for a HUGE Disappointment. Please learn from my mistake and DON'T BUY THIS KIT!!!!!!!!!!The kit looked quality before I opened it. I was like a little kid at Christmas as I tried to open the plastic casing holding the materials and the book. I couldn't have been more surprised at the LACK of quality then I was when I got the plastic open.The pens were inferior, the paper was inferior, the book...Oh my God. There was absolutely NOTHING new in the whole book. The author took excerpts, word for word, from "One Zentangle a Day." The description of the kit should have said, "There is nothing new in this book, just less than you will find in "One Zentangle a Day." But then who would buy this kit? No one would buy it if the author were honest.Once I opened the plastic casing I could not get the materials back into their places, which meant that I couldn't shut the case nor store them in the kit. And, because it was taped shut originally, I couldn't return the kit. If I could have I would have in a nanosecond.I hope if you want a kit that you buy the official Zentangle kit that contains quality paper tiles, quality Pigma pens, a small book and video showing the author drawing book's Zentangles on a tile.Or, buy the book, "One Zentangle a Day" and buy the materials yourself. It is worth the extra money and this book is a wonderful wealth of information, unlike the one in the kit.I hope that this author will revise the kit and include a book with all new content. I will continue to let people know that this kit is DEFINITELY NOT worth buying. If I could have given it zero stars I would have.

New to Tangling and really loving it. This book and set are great. I didn't notice it was a kit and ordered more pens. Thought it was just the book. Could have saved myself some money. My fault though. But it is a lot of fun and more than that it is relaxing and takes my mind off my troubles.

I got this for a friend who is having problems with depression and I thought this was a good diversion and a way to express himself. I've got the Zentangle books and was planning to get him one of those and pens and all but this has it all in one kit which is great. Makes a great gift!
