This book felt very teenage (and I'm not a teenager); it was an enjoyable light read while on vacation. A bit of romance, a bit of mystery, lots of fashion.

Synopsis: Gia is a very rich girl who lives with her father and brother in a mansion that has 6 floors and even an elevator in place. When she gets back from a shopping spree one day her father informs his children that he has decided that they’ll each get a fulltime bodyguard. It’s true that once upon a time her father was a famous actor but that was some 20 years ago and you can safely say he’s not as famous anymore. He claims he his reasons, however, and the decision is not open for reconsideration. When she meets her bodyguard Jack she’s swept of her feet because he is one hot piece of man candy. He’s not making it easy for her, simply by always being around. She doesn’t really see the point in having somebody guarding her until she receives weird text messages and calls. Someone is keeping an eye on her and the texts are signed with Dr. D. When an attack pointed at her goes awry and someone else becomes a victim she is more than determined to find out who’s behind it. With the help of Jack and police cadet Milo she tries to uncover who is responsible for all the stalking, scaring and tormenting. With the Golden Globes just around the corner and with Gia who just scored the role of Miss Golden Globe at the event, the danger rises that she might not even make it to the end of the ceremony at all. It seems she’s not so lucky after all.Opinion: The level of craziness in this chicklit is quite high. Gia’s character is hilarious and made me smile a lot. When she’s nervous she starts speaking British and even when she’s not, she has the habit of blabbering and spitting out the most ridiculous and far-fetched excuses and explanations. The best part is that she always gets away with it too. The focus of the story for me was not so much on the mystery but more on the tension between Gia and her love interests and the wild goose-chase that she undertakes with Jack, which leads them from the Dumpling Hospital (a restaurant with a décor of a hospital I kid you not) where she finds important evidence of someone’s unhealthy focus on her, to a student fraternity and the Coco Club where she has to sneak into with a fake ID, all the while wearing the most unfashionable outfits for some reason or other. The story was certainly entertaining, I liked Gia’s character, she was gutsy and funny and I loved the banter between her and Jack. The motive for the stalking was a bit outdated if I might say but don’t be mistaken, it did have a good dose of action towards the end that was quite enjoyable. The only thing I had a bit of a problem with was that she’s instantly feeling electricity the moment she meets Jack when he touches her but when she sees Milo, her focus shifts with the bat of an eye and it’s suddenly all Milo she wants, yet I still felt the attraction to Jack too. Sweet, reliable Jack who puts up with all of her theatrics, he deserves a trophy on his own. No given the choice, I’d know who I would choose.*I received a free copy from Netgalley and the author in exchange for my honest opinion*If you liked reading my honest opinion, please give me a helpful vote so I can get closer to the top reviewers. Thank you.
