Q: Is the reason for this box to convert unbalanced rcas to a balanced xlr signal? it’s just for defeating possible unbalanced signal noise?

I think most people purchase this box for volume control. It has a high quality potentiometer for this purpose. It will convert an RCA input to a balanced, XLR, output. But it would probably be more cost effective, and space saving, to purchase RCA to XLR cables if that’s all you want to do.

Yes, all metal. It is a ver solid unit.

Q: Can i use this between an amp (Topping MX3) and powered speakers to protect the speakers amp?

No. It would make more sense to use the headphone output and find a splitter to connect it to your powered speakers.
