Works for the garden and keeps the cats from taking a dump
Has worked for one year keeping the stray cats from taking a dump in my garden. Also, works to keep the neighbors dog from hanging over the top rail of the fence. Mild shock using fire wire but frankly I think good old electric fence wire may work better. One thing to consider is that the electrical ground needs to be GOOD, otherwise you won't get a good jolt due to physics. Ring terminals on the wire would also work better. I just re-connect every six months to get a good connection.

Works fantastic.
This does just what it is suppose to do. It keeps my large digging dog out of the garden.

It works!
Immediately after we planted a hedge of English Laurel, the local deer started treating it as an all-you-can-eat salad bar. The hedge had no chance. The deer would move in every time fresh leaves appeared. We installed an eight-foot tall plastic fence, but the deer just broke through it. So we installed a tougher fence, but the deer found a way under it. Weighted logs at the bottom of the fence had no effect as the deer jumped over. We also tried deer repellent, fishing line, attaching bells to the fence, rags soaked in ammonia, and scattered chunks of Irish Spring soap. A motion-activated water spray helped a bit, but a neighbor saw deer using it as a drinking fountain. At my wit’s end, I started leaving food for the deer a couple of hundred feet from the hedge. The deer equivalent of paying protection money. None of this worked, and thoughts about the deer started to take over my waking hours. If someone asked me how I was doing, I would respond with a long diatribe about my battle with the deer. The deer became my only topic of conversation. In desperation, I ordered a Patriot PE5, expecting this would be just one more failure. But to my amazement, it has worked for the last 12 months. I recommend smearing peanut butter on the wire in a few places.

Solved our hound escape problem.
This is a great fence charger for home use. I have two tree hounds, one of them (Gunner) found out that he can jump my 6ft cedar board fence at the decorative gate that I built. For the price, you can't beat this fence charger. It's good and hot. Only took one wack for ol gun man to realize his unauthorized border crossings are a thing of the past. The unit is very simple for those that don't have much experience in electric fencing. The only downfall is that the charger is not water proof or weather resistant. That makes it a pain if you are installing it away from your home or barn, but it's an inexpensive system and you get what you pay for. I recommend making a little "birdhouse" for it to keep it dry. Make sure you have a solid ground stake and use insulated wire from the stake to the charger. Works great so far. I would recommend this unit to friends and family.

It keeps the Arizona mice out of my car engine
In the past I used the solar version similar to this one but the battery in that item only lasted about a year so now I got this unit which I think it’s a better choice since it will not run out of power in the middle of the night and find mice making a nest in my car engine. Good buy and cheaper then replacing the battery in the solar version. So far it’s working out and keeping the mice out of my car and garage. Hopefully it will last a long time.

Doesn't kill birds or squirrels but keeps them off the fence and out of the garden
Shocks, repels, and doesn't kill even small animals. This unit has very effectively kept squirrels, racoons, opossums, etc. off my wood fence and out of my garden. The electric wire is strung around the top of a solid wood fence. A ground wire is strung within an inch of the hot wire. Birds land on the ground and hot wires and are not harmed. Squirrels climb the fence but avoid going over the top and into the garden. No dead animals but a harmless shock. The fence is about 250 feet in perimeter so it covers a small area. The unit is enclosed in a weather proof plastic box.

Works good for my dogs and keeps the barn cat out of my garden
I was using a much stronger fence charger but it had my blue heeler terrified of going outside (dog door) when he could hear the fence charger on. The dog is super smart but my old charger had such a strong shock, he would wet himself if he touched the hot wire, then would refuse to go outside again as long as he could hear the charger on. I decided a much lower powered charger would be sufficient to keep him attempting to dig under the fence, so I purchased this one. This one makes no sound that the dogs or I can hear. We've had this charger running for over a week and he's yet to touch the hotwire. My pugs have both touched it and they just acted uncomfortable and moved away, they didn't yelp out like they did with the other one.I am using the charger to electrify 65' of poly-wire along the bottom of a fence line and also to surround my container garden that's about 24' x 6' with 3 strands of poly-wire. Our barn cat is awful about killing plants in pots, but he's yet to set foot in my container garden area, (have cameras on everything), so I'm guessing he knows from prior experience with horse fencing to stay away from electric fence. We are using a 6' copper ground rod.I give it 4 out of 5 stars, because it's not weather proof. To make it more weatherproof, I purchased a very small clear container put charger inside of it, drilled a hole in the back of the container and hung both the charger with the container over it, on a screw, screwed into some privacy fencing. The container should sufficiently protect the charger.Update 3/2025- Charger is still working great.
