Tons of fun, but randomly crashes
Let me start by saying that I am a huge fun of the old Carmagedon games (to the point of obsession). The latest game has kept up to the franchise. It is fun, good graphics, same tried recipe of power ups, smashing cars, running over pedestrians, etc.The control physics are exactly how they should be, fluid enough so you can do January turns or turn around, yet slippery enough so that if you mess up you end up losing control. For some it may be too hard to control the Eagler (the starting car) whereas others vehicles have different controls (e.g. SUV, track, e c.).Some of the themes and tracks are really outstanding and extremely entertaining, some a downright frustrating but overall it's a good mix of difficulty and fun.Opponents do keep focusing you and will ram you at any opportunity but any seasoned carmagedon fun should know how to deal with those issues. So why the three stars you wonder?Well it's simple: the game is buggy as he'll and randomly crashes. I wish it was a PS4PRO issue but the same thing happens on a PC using steam. In the modern age and time, releasing a game which randomly segfaults is simply unacceptable. Furthermore I've patched it and this still happens. Imagine spending two hours exploring a stage, finding all the hidden stuff, running over 590 peds over the 600 total, and then Boom! Games crashes. Not just once or twice but consistently. I can't imagine how a software house is able to get away with it!So overall a great game revived from the past, great fun, but really unstable.

Disappointing
It's rubbish to honest, the original plays better on iOS. The cars drive like they're constantly on ice unless you're going really slow but then you just get taken out by the other cars. This wouldn't be to bad except that your car is made out of foil and the opponent cars are made out of Wolverine's left nut!! It gets better, the opponent cars have moving parts, like a twin chainsaw bonnet or a scythe or a big drill, which when your car gets stuck on them, they'll actually chew your car up. Which is a neat feature tobegin with but gets old fast when you realise how weak you car is and how little damage you do in return and you spending the points you've accumulated repairing yourself into minus figures. Then there are the Police vehicles who ignore everyone else and zero in on you, EVERY-EFFING-TIME, oh did I mention these are actually stronger and harder hitting then you opponents? Even the little Police campus buggy can knock you about! I have no idea if it gets better or stays the same later on in the game but I've played it until race area 10 and unlocked the level 4 upgrades for power, defence and offence. I just can't be bothered putting myself through this rage inducing game anymore which is a shame because I was really looking forward to it, having gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the original back on the PC. All they have to do is make the cars grip better, turn down the aggression of the police and balance out the damage delt/receive ratio and it would be a far better game.

Shows Promise, But Maintains Old Issues.
If you have played the original and its sequel, then you will feel at home here. Unfortunately, this new game has also carried across the irritating aspects of the original games as well as the fun sides. For example, the most frustrating experience I've ever had with Carmageddon is to smash into my opponent head-on at high-speed, only for it to do more damage to myself than to the opponent. This is often repeated here, and at times it feels random, as you seem to cause varying amounts of damage to opponents even though you attack them at the same speed and angle. There are power-ups to assist with this, however these are not always convenient or useful (again a grievance I've had since the original games). The handling of the cars is also a massive hindrance to the game. This has always been the case with Carmageddon, however you'd think that this could have been fixed by now, although I understand this was not by the same makers as the originals.Thirdly and finally, another irritation is that opponents seem to have a habit of ganging up on you, even at the lowest difficulties. This can be a real pain during missions when you are forced to collect checkpoints. One thing I'd like to emphasise is that despite this seemingly negative review, I enjoy the game, and it shows a lot of promise for a sequel. I really hope that there is one, as I'd love to see the issues above addressed, and l should also praise the fact that this game even exists in the first place. The effort that went into it was clearly tremendous, and it's well worth the <£10 price these days.

Same as many years ago
I still remember when the first game came out and I bought it for my Pentium 100 MHz PC. Jesus - that was a long time ago. Games came a long way since then, but this new Carmageddon didn't follow. It's pretty-much the same game as many years ago - with new graphics. It's not necessary a bad thing if you're nostalgic as I am, but at the same time you get bored pretty-quickly. Graphics is so-so as well. I'm not saying it's a bad game - it's not. All I'm saying is that it could have been much better. Better graphics wouldn't make it much better, but improved handling and damage model would have been a good start. I will be playing it occasionally. Mostly when my 30+ year old friends come over.

I had Carmageddon when it originally released on PC way back when and this takes me back and i'm pleased to say the game is very much what i remembered and more.I've put 4 stars as i did experience some frame rate issues and i'd hoped for a bit more new stuff but still happy to spend hours playing this classic reincarnation from Stainless!
