PENGUIN Shadows of the Dark Crystal #1

A good debut.. and a series I look forward to continuing.
To say this was a first novel by the Author JM Lee, and by no mean feat an easy challenge considering the cult following that Jim Henson's Original movie has acquired over the years, as faithful member of this cult following myself; I can say with certainty that fans will NOT be disappointed in this book.Set as the prequel to the movie we follow out main character Naia on her adventure to discover why her brother has gone missing and why the Skesis are so keen to find him. However this book does have a tendency to meander along at a very leisurely pace, which at times i found frustrating, especially as most if the action happens in last three chapters making the ending feel rushed. It does open the trilogy up for further investigation, so to view this book as introduction would probably be wise so as not to frustrated at the sometimes slow pace. That being said I look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy and due credit to the author should be given.

A fantastic novel, can't wait to read the whole series!
(Spoilers ahead, beware!)I thoroughly enjoyed Shadows of the Dark Crystal! So much so, that I ordered the second book in the tetralogy before finishing the first book! A fantastic introduction to the world of Thra, if you've never seen The Dark Crystal before or read any of the other related novels/written works. Naia and Kylan are fantastic characters who are enjoyable to read and are incredibly likeable.(Side note: Poor Gurjin. I love him!)The only reason I withold one star from my rating is because I found the story to be a bit slow to begin with. However, this was easily forgiven with the amount of detail given about the settings the characters are in at any given time; from the descriptions of Sami Thicket and the Swamp of Sog, Mr. Lee illustrates the world beautifully and I'm excited to read more in the next 3 books.Would definitely recommend, especially as a hardcore fan of the Dark Crystal!

Perfect for any lover of the original story
Brilliant illustration on the dust jacket. The story is gripping and I was so impressed with it that I urged my parents to give it a try. They enjoyed it so much they were impatient to start reading the second.
