Does this fit securely in one of the tubes on the side of the Leatherman wave nylon sheath?

No. The "tubes" on the side of my Leatherman Wave nylon sheath are elastic pockets with no bottom. The elastic is not tight around the bit-driver, and it has a small enough diameter to fall through. My solution is to put a pocket clip from an old ink pen onto the bit driver. That eliminates any chance the bit driver can fall through.

Does this convert to regular hex bit size?

Yes you can use regular hex bits in this extension.it has a notch in it to accept the leather man bits that are flat. Those bits are a must have for the leatherman as well. I use them and the extension constantly.

Does this fit into the Leatherman surge premium case elastic side pockets without falling out?

I have the bit driver on one side and a Fenix 05 (AAA flashlight) on the other of my balistic nylon case for the Charge.

is this extension in any way magnetic?

No, it is not magnetic. It holds the bits in by using a small friction/tension ring.

handy for the 'ol Skeletool

Although I am not a EDC fanatic, this is a very worthwhile addition. I HATE HATE HATE using the fixed screwdriver heads on a Swiss Army Knife or multi-tool. Skeletool has none of that **** but does have a socket that accepts removable flat bits. Flat bits are still pretty lame. THIS bit driver extender allows me to select the right sized conventional bit for the job. Some pre-selected bits, sized for your application...stowed in your bag or desk drawer and *POOF* a real useful tool. Recommend.
