I wanted some longer than normal socks to see me through the winter, and these was the best value pack I could find. They are warm, and they go a nice distance up my legs, but they can feel a little bit tight around the top. I get used to it after a few minutes but find that when I take them off at night they've left a mark. I wouldn't have said that my calves were particularly large if I was being honest.I've washed them all a few times now, and I think I'd have been better off leaving them to dry naturally rather than putting them in the tumble dryer. They tend to fluff up a bit. Over all though they do the job.

Worn them couple of times, they are ok for my use which is while wearing my Wellingtons, they are quite a tight fit especially around the top, that are not very thick and do not have any padded areas, that is why they are relatively cheap. In my opinion I would not say they are thermal socks and without padded areas I would not use them for skiing, I use to ski but stopped few years back due to an injury, my skiing socks were ouch thicker with various padded areas.Having said that they are ideal for my use and at the price paid value for money.

I bought these for walking the dog during the winter months but am going to order more as I just can't take them off! I wear them indoors with my slippers, outdoors with my walking shoes and even in bed, (I've never worn socks in bed before!), but they are so comfortable and warm I can't be without them! Fantastic and great value for money! I'd pay double for these socks! I love them! 5 stars from me! (I'm a size 12 shoe btw and they fit lovely... not tight or small... spot on!)
