Not easy to use on large items, needs more background heat.
Tried to mend a cracked lawn mower engine.Could not get enough heat on casing, even using Mapp gas.

Excellent - used right they are spot on.
No need to go over items, you only use what you need

Absolutely worked for me!
Unlike other reviews I received the genuine article and it absolutely did work. I use it for model making so can’t testify to its strength in more heavy duty applications but I will say that it is a lot harder than the parent aluminium so be careful when filing / blending it in as you will soon wear through the parent metal before this filler rod. Things to note: this is a soldering / brazing process, it is NOT welding and does not melt into the parent metal so don’t expect it to be as strong as a proper weld. It does melt at a lower temperature than aluminium and can be done with a standard Propane / butane torch. You MUST follow the instructions to the letter, and the materials must be CLEAN of any anodise, grease, dirt, oxidation etc. DO NOT heat the rod directly with the flame, it will just crumble and fall off. Move the torch off to the side of the area being brazed but keep it on the metal. The temperature window is quite small so it does solidify quite quickly if the parent metal is allowed to cool too much. Above all, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!!

Great for thin sheet
Very difficult to get enough heat to melt these rods on surface of a aluminium casting with a Map gas cylinder. Perhaps if I had preheated in a oven to 200 degC it might have worked but item had rubber seals so could not do this. Where it does seem to work quite well is thin sheet.

Actually there pretty good
These melt to a liquid pretty quick and stick pretty good. Found them to work and bond best when the metal is nearly red hot.

Very easy to use fixed my bench in 20 minutes
Ok, it's a very amateur weld, but it's very strong and holds up well. Melts easily using a kitchen butane blow torch. The crack was too fine for the weld to drop in so I drilled a couple of holes either side of the crack and filled them with weld from top and bottom, then welded across the top. I'll be painting the bench so my blobby weld won't really show, but a more proficient person would make a better job!

Perfect, easy to use and works with a standard gas blowtorch.
I have a hole worn in an aluminium Aircon pipe, which would have been expensive to replace. Pipe disconnected, seals removed, pipe cleaned with 100 grit wet or dry paper. Using a standard gas blowtorch, pipe heated and kept testing the heat until the welding rod material started to flow and fed the rod into the hole. Perfect flow and very similar to soldering. A nice neat job that was pleasing to see. Pipe refitted and Aircon system regased. Sorted.
