Inside Handle Storm Door Latch White

Q: the part that this thing rotates into? attached to door jamb? will this just bolt on keep door closed, or need to replace that striker jamb,too?.

This part has a spring loaded nose on it. When the door is pulled in to close the nose folds in to allow the door to close. When in place the nose springs out to catch the edge of the door frame and hold it is place. The innards of this piece also contain a spring that holds the outside door handle in place. When the outside door handle is rotated it rotates the nose piece upward to allow the door to open. Hope this will answer the question for you.

Q: This looks identical to my broken one, but mine has a 5/16” square spindle attached with a c-clip. Does this handle also attach its spindle the same?

I had to cut the length of this spindle to fit my door thickness, but the spindle was the same width 5/16" I used a Dremel tool to cut the spindle Once I did that the handle fit and is still in use

Q: Does the replacement latch come with another 5/16" spindle? I cannot get the spindle on the broken latch to come off.

Hi, No it doesn't come with a 5/16 spindle. You have to buy it separately. I had the same problem. I couldn't get the spindle out of the old handle. Hope this helps.
