I bought this to protect and add some cushion to a luxury brand, firm Bloomingdale's mattress; it is doing just that. I've found it adds just enough cushion (for more cushioned comfort) but still provides a firm feel. Keep in mind putting this on a large sponge rather than a firm mattress would give you a different result. It replaced a mostly polyester and thick mattress pad that was quite warm underneath; this is definitely cooler to sleep on!Because this is not washable, I zipped it in a queen cotton allergy protective duvet cover that can be washed, and put it under my fitted sheet. Also someone mentioned in an earlier review.... something about an odor. That is completely false. There is no odor unless you are sensitive to the smell of cotton or wool which literally has no smell in my opinion.

FIRST OF ALL DO NOT BELIEVE THE SLANDER that other reviewers have made against this company. These products DO NOT have any chemical odor nor are they chemically treated!! Before making any comments you NEED TO DO THE RESEARCH as I have!! [...]Also, remember had they been chemically treated they never would have gotten organic certificates such as USDA, GOTS, CERES, etc.)This company has taken the time to produce the purest, cleanest organic mattress topper I have ever seen. So cozy I wanted to use it as a blanket!! This topper improves 100 percent the texture of the mattress I now have that was previously uncomfortable for me. This topper is worth every penney. This manufacturer has carefully analyzed everthing before putting it together. Each side of this topper has a thick organic elastic strap that perfectly holds down each of the four sizes of the topper to each of the four corners of the mattress making it fit tightly in place so that it does not move and shift while you are sleeping. Also the packaging was amazing! Each topper comes individually wrapped up in a thick, organic cotton reusasble sack with back straps so you can easily carry it with you. This is great especially since the topper will never touch the packaging plastic that comes with the mail delivery. This ensures this beautiful organic topper to arrive at your house clean, without any smell and 100 percent germ free from any contaminents in transit. It is country fresh and made with the customer's health in mind. You can purchase this with confidence and it is worth every penney spent. Update 5/29/21- Wow, almost 8 years later and we are just about ready to replace this wonderful topper! We’re mattress shopping again, and this topper has seen us through all of these years with no issues. The only reason I want to replace it is because it’s quite stained from all these years of using by without a mattress pad. I didn’t want to risk taking away the benefit of the temp regulation by covering it with a poly mattress pad so I left it. Otherwise it’s fine. I’m finding after trying two mattresses in a box (Tuft and Needle Original and Happsy) that all mattresses now feel quite firm after sleeping on this for so long. I can’t be without it. Paired with a wool comforter and you can’t beat it for temperature regulation! Worth every penny!Original 2013 Review:Ever since giving birth to my son last year, I wake up often in the night soaked in sweat. I have tried closing the heat registers in our bedroom, using fans, and I've tried different comforters (down and polyester). Nothing has worked. Then, we recently decided to upgrade our queen mattress to a king, and we got a Simmons Beautyrest with a foam topper. Bad idea. Baaaaad. I was waking up every night drenched. Between that and the huge crater I'd find myself in when I woke up, I decided I hated memory foam. But the mattress can't be returned so I decided to try this. Wow. It helps with the feeling of sinking down into the mattress and makes the bed so soft! It does help to keep me cooler, although I still sweat under our down comforter. I ordered a wool comforter today that should take care of that problem. But really, such luxury!I do occasionally smell the wool smell, but it doesn't bother me. I had purchased a Snugglewool blanket for my son when he was born and had to sell it because I could not stand the smell. This does not come close to smelling as strong as that blanket did. It comes in a nice organic cotton bag and the cover itself is so soft and smooth. Really, it's a perfect solution.Pricey, but worth it to solve my sleep issues.

This is almost a 5 star mattress topper, but there are a couple of things that make it less than perfect.First off, this is very high quality. It is well made, durable, and heavy enough that you don't have to use the elastic straps to hold it in place. It's approximately 1.5 inches thick. There is a slight sheep smell from the wool, but it doesn't bother me at all. It definitely does sleep cooler than most mattress toppers, and the materials used are definitely better for your health than chemical-laden memory foam toppers.The only problem with this topper, and the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is that is doesn't provide enough cushion, and the way the baffles are constructed, you can feel the seams if you're a bony person like myself. 1.5 inches of wool just isn't enough. It compresses too easily. It might be better if it were constructed with staggered tufts instead of baffles so I don't feel the seams, but I still don't think it would be comfortable enough. I think a 3 inch tufted wool topper would be better for more cushion.If you're looking for more cushion and want to keep it all natural and organic, you may want to spend extra on a thick wool topper (around 3 inches), or get a 2 or 3 inch natural latex foam topper. Either way, this is a high quality mattress topper, but don't expect it to provide a lot of cushion.

We recently purchased a great latex mattress. The one problem with it is it retains and builds up heat. This resulted in difficulty sleeping due to the heat from the mattress. The wool mattress topper has significantly reduced the heat to and from the mattress. As a bonus there is a nice soft layer of wool to sleep on.Reviews for this product on Amazon.con indicate some people with a memory foam mattress may also have this heat generation problem.

Excellent for the price, well made, one cannot find this quality and comfort for twice the price. Amazon offering the best price of North America. For those who suffer from back and neck problem and have to sleep on hard surfaces this product is ideal, it cautions the upper level without compromising the rigidity of the mattress.

Comfortable: adds just enough softness to my firm mattress.It does hang over the edge of the mattress; as a Queen size, it is about 64 by 84 instead of 60 by 80.Added May 15, 2016: I'm finding it really comfortable and I'm sleeping better.

I found sleeping on this increased my back pain. Not sure why.
