Very interesting book - and a very good translation! I am danish so I have also read the original danish edition.

Wonderful work of translation!

These stories are unsettling, in a really good way, and I loved them. They examine, with a fine artist’s attention to detail, the most unspeakable elements of ourselves. Many of the characters are reproachable or worse, are utterly common or banal, but end up doing reprehensible things. The plots build slowly and unceremoniously, with an almost scientific attention to the specifics of setting and sequence. There is no warning for the shift in mood and the turning point of the story often hits you with a punch. The end result is not comforting, but it is invigorating, and I found myself unable to put the book down. This was a very worthwhile, wonderful read.

Gorgeous and evocative collection of stories. Characters that feel familiar drift into unsettling terrain. Aidt explores those uncomfortable places that we recognize and from which we recoil. After each story I needed to pause and reflect, always a bit unnerved, yet I was eager to continue reading as I was spellbound with both her language and her storytelling, both exquisite.

Once I started reading these compelling stories, I couldn't stop. The stories are all so unique and complex with a cinematic feel that leaves the reader wanting more.
