Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead: How Fruits and Vegetables Changed My Life

I am all in!
My life has been such a mess in so many ways and when I stumbled upon this video in NetFlix, I watched it because the title matched my feelings exactly. By the end of the documentary, I was so happy! They had used this word that just sort of woke me up completely - Reboot! Reboot! No, I don't think going on a 'diet' will make all my worries fade away or all of my problems magically right themselves, but it's like what both of these fellows did in the movie - they left their sphere (pun kind of intended) of comfort, and went 'all in' and committed to a crazy idea - a 60 day juice fast. It changed the way they looked at the world, the way they thought, and the way they interacted with their environment - people included.I thought immediately, that's for me! Yeah, I have >50 lbs to lose, but more importantly, I have my point of view to change. I want to change the way I view the world, because right now, that view SUCKS! Anyway, just like my heroes in this documentary, I am going to document myself as well! I started a blog (new! come cheer me on at flabbysoul!), bought my juicer (new!), bought some juicing books and read them (new! new!), visited my doctor to get an ok of the plan (not new, but wise!), and am now on day 3 of removing all food from my diet and adding juices as I go. I have watched the video a few more times to renew my enthusiasm, but I am only more determined than ever. REBOOT! It's my new catch phrase...REVIEW OF THE BOOK: Decent companion to the movie, but I would highly recommend the movie over the book if you are looking for just one. Both, if you can.REVIEW OF THE DOCUMENTARY: SPOILERS!! SPOILERS!! First, the style is exceedingly watchable. Voice over with some interactions - man on the street type of thing. Before we even see the truck driver, we are cheering this fat, rich, exec on. His no nonsense "I decided to do this and here I am doing it" is what you would expect from an entrepreneur who made of himself everything he is - good and bad. When he meets the truck driver, who just seems like another person he is preaching juicing to, you kind of forget about him. And when the exec returns to Australia, you think the movie is over. NOT! Enter the late night cry of desperation from the truck drive! I am paraphrasing here - "If you remember me and your offer to help is still good, please let me know. I really need your help. Please help me." I almost cried. And what does our exec do? He boards a plane and rushes to the rescue! He gets our truck driver settled, with a doctor, and stuck in a hotel for 10 days to do a ten day fast. By this time, we are in love with the truck driver a little bit and are cheering him on madly. Go go go!! And what does he decide to do after the ten days are up? He does another ten days! And another! And another! He does a full 60, and by the time he is done, he has lost huge amount of weight, but more importantly, you can see that he also views the world and how he fits into it differently as well. Awesomely inspirational. I can only hope my journey ends half as well!

The best and easiest Diet out there
An absolute must for every Joe Cross & Reboot fan. If you like to find out more after having watched the documentary and the bonus features, this book has even more stories and nutritional information. I can highly recommend it together with "The Reboot with Joe Diet".Rebooting is the only diet that works, because when you are addicted to food, eating smaller amounts of food will only make it harder for you to stick to a diet. Not eating solid food and instead drinking your own healthy juice full of nutrients will take away any cravings within 3 days. You'll stop thinking of food all the time like you do with other low calorie diets. My own experience: the best time for a Reboot is around new moon, because then we are the least hungry (and around full moon we are craving unhealthy food). If you take Friday off and stay in bed for 3 days (prepare the juice in advance on Thursday if you can, so you don't have to get up all the time to make your next juice as that's very time consuming) your juice fasting experience will be a lot easier.Read a good novel, sleep or watch DVD's that are NOT about eating, but something that diverts you. Turn off the cell phone. This is supposed to be YOUR time.If you really cannot make it through the first 2 or 3 days, you might not be a good juice faster. Not everybody can fast.Good luck!In any case you should see your PCP first to find out if Rebooting is for you.

Life Changing. I mean it.
I bought this book after buying a juicer and then seeing the documentary. The documentary was so inspiring and it really encouraged me to take a chance and give a plant-based diet a chance. It’s been 11 days now and I couldn’t be happier. Then I bought the book. The book is so much better than the movie. It’s not just the nutritional facts, but Joe’s travel experiences and basically his whole life story. I read it in about three days. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with weight or any health issues. A plant-based diet isn’t as difficult as you might think. I feel so much better already and some issues that I was having with allergies, joint pain, and tiredness seem to be feeling away with each new day.

This book was such an inspiration to me! I do not need to do a 60 day fast but after this book I did so a 5 day fast and it make me feel great. I have since changed my entire diet and have lost 9 lbs. I still would like to lose about 20 more and it won't take long. I now know how to eat a plant based diet and I have researched other sites and movies about what we eat and I'm so glad I did. i highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to feel their best. I make 4 cups of juice every morning and drink 2 cups in the morning and 2 cups in the afternoon for my break. I have noticed so many changes in my body that it's unreal. Besides slowly losing some weight, my fingernails are harder, my complexion is much nicer and my hair used to fall out to the point that I could clog a drain in a week. Now I only lose just a very small amount which is more like it should be. So if you want some great inspiration, I would highly recommend this book.

Changed My Outlook
Well, Joe did a wonderful thing by sharing his experiences and his knowledge. I did a juice fast for 5 weeks this past autumn, and while I didn't lose tons of weight like most everyone else, I did feel better for it. Only thing was, I couldn't drink as many servings with as many fruits & veg as is recommended. Too filling! I found it easy to stick to the 80/20 percentage of veg to fruit; but I found my shopping was just as expensive as if I was buying all manner of other foods. So, it won't save you money. My favourite is what I call The Shetland Pony -- four carrots and two apples. Just fabulous. AND! The most important part is that I take the pulp, mix it all together in a large plastic container with raw oats and I make my neighbour's Shetland pony the happiest horse on the block!

Great read
This is a great read and if you can please watch the DVD that goes with it or Ty and catch it on tv (it's been on recently and I'm hooked ) I've just purchased a juicer ( £30 ) on amazon I've gone for the cheaper version because I want to see if juicing is for me before I spend a lot of money. See my review for the VIVO juicer. This book is a wonderful story and very Inspiring hence why I am reading it and starting my juice programme. I have ailments under active thyroid and fynromyalgia plus CFS and I fully intend to detox my whole system and eliminate all the toxins from my body so I can in fact experience a re birth and start again and hopefully make these ailments disappear.

Change your life
I watched the DVD of Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and the next day bought a juicer. A juice feast later I have lost weight and feel healthier than I have for years. Still juicing but eating a plant based diet now. It is not for everyone it is true, but if you do your research and find out what it is all about, once you are ready to give it a go and get through the initial detox, you will reap the benefits in so many ways. If you are sensible about it, juicing really can change your life or, at the very least, enhance it.

Wonderfully inspiring
See my previous review of Reboot with Joe Recipe book. - everyone concerned about their own health should read this then watch the DVD or the other way round. I was totally inspired by Joe and what he did and why he did it - it made me totally re-evaluate the way i eat and what i have done to my health and how i can make it better. I think most people reading or watching Joe's DVD of the same title will be inspired too.
