I don't think its design to hold too much weight. It's more for balance. It's screwed in to the wall with plastic anchors if you don't use the studs in the wall. The metal brackets are solid metal and might support more weight if you secure them to the studs in the wall. The bar is 1.5" thick and 3 feet long.
