An essential addition to the Beam n Read
The Bean n Read is an incredibly useful gadget. So much so that my wife uses it constantly for her hand Sashiko embroidery work. Even though the BnR is LED based, it still uses batteries. With this AC adapter you can save the batteries for car trips or other away activities. You need this particular adapter because the BnR does not want a more ordinary AC adapter barrel-type plug. It wants a small headphone-style plug, which is not normally found on Radio Shack "universal" replacement adapters. Also, the voltage wanted (4.8V) is unusual. Given that you are replacing three batteries in series for a string of LEDs, this value is probably not that critical. So, if you are handy with a soldering iron and can scrounge up an AC adapter and proper plug, you can probably make your own. But, why bother? The time it will take and the cost of parts makes it cheaper (to me) to just buy the adapter. The adapter is a more modern switcher style which means it is light and much less of an energy vampire than older transformer-style "wall warts". It comes with an 8-foot extension female-to-male cord so the adapter plus BnR can be used even in a large room. One note - The connectors are tight, so push hard to mate them the first time. Listen for the "click".Overall, this is an excellent addition to the BnR.

Beam & Read updated
I love my Beam and Read. I had one a few years back, (not sure it was called Beam and Read... actually had purchased from my Avon rep) for reading paper books. When I started looking for lights for my Kindle I was pleasantly surprised to find this updated version.I appreciated the tip from the person who said something about using it "upside down" and that does work best for me.My only complaint, like others have noticed that the strap is too short.I would not recommend it for those who have a longer neck. I am a short person so it works for me. But if you are tall, just beware of that. I also got the adapter so that I can use it with electric and not worry about the battery running out.I am only giving it three stars though because of the length of the strap. Can't tell you how many "Kindle" lights I have experimented with, this turned out to be the best of the lot.

Not necessary
I'm sorry I bought this, because the Beam N Read LED Hands Free Light is great with just the batteries. I've been using it for several weeks and have yet to need to change batteries. The cord of the adapter just gets in the way.

Difficult to Use
I am doing needlepoint and I thought that this would help me. However, I find it very difficult to use and it does not help.

Haven't tried this yet
As my Beam & Read came with batteries, but I dont' want to spend a ton on keeping batteries, so I am sure I will be using this a lot once the batteries run down in it.

Wonderful for arts and crafts.
I use this all the time for quilt piecing and quilting. It's wonderful when working in the evening when lighting is not as good. I'd highly recommend using this for anyone.
