Good lead holder with some *external* quirks.
This is a good pencil. Anyone looking at this probably already knows this. So I will open by riffing on the sharpener situation:It is important to know that the Staedtler 502 Lead Pointer is designed to fit the German Staedtler 780 and 788 Leadholders. Or, rather, it's a traditional design and as such they designed those pencils to be compatible -- they are designs from probably 50+ years ago, so it's hard to know which came first. That said, I imagine it is more-or-less compatible with most traditional slim leadholders.Regarding German/Japanese pencil compatibility: One of the things that has come up in the comments on this product as well as many of the Japanese Staedtler products is that this Staedtler 502 sharpener is not compatible with anything wider than the 780 and that includes being "incompatible" with the popular Japanese 925 25-20 and 925 35-20... you will see that many people discuss how to sharpen those in the reviews. First, I will say, there are many stand-alone 2mm sharpeners. If you really want a standalone sharpener, the Staedtler "egg" or "oval"-shaped sharpener from Japan (513 85DS BK), which fits 2mm and 3mm leads. However, I can tell you, as I literally just used the 502 sharpener to sharpen my 925 25-20. The simple solution is to make the lead flush with the sleeve, then click the pencil 16-20 times, and then thread the pencil into the grinder, and go for it. You will have to experiment on the angle, the longer the lead the sharper the tip. Start at 16 and work to 20 clicks. If it is too long you will likely snap your lead. I can confirm that this works with HB leads; different degrees may have different results. If you want to be 100% certain, then buy a cheap 780 and use it as a sharpening body, or buy the egg sharpener.---As far as THIS product, the 925 25 20 (and the identical 925 35 20), it's very nice. One long-term concern I have is if I will accidentally loosen the Degree ring, but that's a quibble -- I will know what lead I have in there; I'm not buying 5 of these. A quick note is that this is indeed a traditional mechanical pencil feed on the 2mm lead; this is not a clutch style lead-holder, if that makes any difference to you.The external quibble is the sharpener situation, but the 502 works for me, so I cannot detract. Also, finally, with these aluminum 925s, people complain about the clacky noises making it sound cheap. I have great news -- it's NOT cheap and loose, it's not the internals, and it's not falling apart. This is a small quirk is the cap, which IS aluminum not plastic, sitting on the lead tube and swaying. It causes a bit of a noise and a bit of bit of a vibration when writing. So no, you shouldn't have to fix this, but the good news is that it's super duper easy to fix. Pull the cap off, and put the tiniest little 5mm^2 square of masking tape or something on the bottom border of the cap (which will be hidden inside the pencil). It will make no more noise, function fine, and strangely, being more rigid, improves the perceived heft of the pencil and makes it feel even better.

Wonderful 1.3mm pencil
I have loved 1.3mm lead for years. Up until recently it has been hard to find quality pencils that took this lead. Most are plastic clutched low end test taking pencils. When i say this 925 series i jumped on it. I have the basic 925 in the 0.9mm size and love it.. This pencil is even better. Good solid brass jaw and nice metal knurled grip make this a winner. Like the hardness indicator too but i usually only run 2B lead but it is nice to have. Solid build quality and a good clip round things out. No eraser but not a huge deal. Cap is tight and it appears only one lead can be fed at a time (i may be wrong on this as i have not tried to put a second lead in). It comes with only one lead and i m not a huge fan of it as Staedtler leads are not my favorite brand anyway. Lead was broken wich is surprising given the thickness but it will be replaced soon anyway. Shipped from Japan and got to me in a timely fashion and was in great shape. Seller included a small gift which was a nice touch. In my never ending quest to find the perfect mech. Pencil i may have taken a step closer.

Arguably my new fave
I've gone through a stationary rabbit hole and went from cartridge fountain pens to mechanical pencils. I like the metal body and the reliability of the steadler brand. It's available in a few colors but I preferr the silver body. I def recommend it for heavy handed people because the lead doesn't break as easily. Doesn't come with an eraser so having an eraser with it will be handy.

Perfect Pencil
This is a great mechanical pencil. Finding one for larger lead diameter is hard to do. It is very durable and comfortable to hold as the design is perfect. I like the size and the durability. A great price, too!

which is a very good lead for drawing
I used these leads in my Caran d'ACHE 2MM mechanical to sketch (After taking off the cap at the blunt end of the lead). It sharpens nicely and is strong while under slight pressure. Other leads break easily - but these are quite nice. It writes very smooth on paper and gives a lot of tones depending on how you use it - doesn't feather or smear as much, it's still a HB so it can only get so dark. But it makes an excellent on-the-go pencil lead for my pocket sketch book.I'd recommend giving it a try, it's certainly feels different from the ones you get form your office/art supply stores.

Great mechanical pencil!
I use 1.3mm pencil for writing music. The lead that comes with the pencil is good - I replaced it with a very black polymer lead from Pentel. The pencil has a good quality feel - light weight with a good aluminum grip.Yep! I would heartedly recommend this mechanical pencil. I’ll be buying another one!

Reviewing a pencil?.?.?
My dad is a retired engineer. He gave me one of these 1.3mm mechanical pencils to try and I absolutely loved it. The fine point mechanical leads break constantly, this is easy to write with even on a cardboard box. I bought one of these metal ones for us both. We really enjoy how well they work. Yes, a fine mechanical lead pencil is good for detail, but I never write anything like that. I write notes and it is a very practical tool that I use every day.

Garbage
It was a good pencil that lasted few days. After the initial using for a few days, the dispenser inside of the pencil refused to work. Total disappointment.
