Should i get this one or the gx2 kit? what is the difference?

You can get this one for under $17 and the gx2 kit is about $50 . I didn’t buy the gx2 kit so I can’t tell if it’s worth about $33 more . But I can tell you this is a nice rod and reel for $17 . Hope that helps answer your question.

Can the reel be removed and replaced with another one as my grandson grows in his fishing abilities?

Hi,Yes you are able to unwind the spoon and replace it with a new fishing line (which I would recommend unless you like dealing with tangled line after a few caught fish) or replace the entire reel and keep the same fishing pole. My 5 year old daughter cough 4 trouts last weekend and enjoy the easy cast system.

These Shakespeare reels have 4 to 6 bearings?

The saltwater reel says 1 ball bearing. The freshwater doesn't say but the website says, "Graphite spinning reel with ball bearing." Guess also 1.
