The only thing to know is that plastic becomes brittle, so the buckle will eventually fail. We found this out when we were camping and a deer came to visit and our dog tried to chase it, and when he reached the end of his tie out, the buckle broke and he was able to chase the deer across the campground. The collar was 5 years old, so it was probably time to replace.
