Great sound and not annoying loud
My Vance and Hines Big Radius 2 into 2 were beautiful to look at, but they were just too loud. Day long trips required me to wear ear plugs, reducing my traffic awareness. It is true that loud pipes do not alert drivers in front of you. They can only hear the sound when you are along side of them or in front. So, I decided to try the Supertrapp 2 into 1 Supermeg for my 2012 HD Softail. The manufacturer does an excellent job packaging these pipes. Some of the best and most protective packaging I have seen. There were no marks of any kind that could be caused by rubbing or contact with finished surfaces. The pipes look to be of high quality construction. Only two minor complaints. First, the assembly and installation instructions are minimal, even inadequate. If I hadn't done a lot of research on the internet prior to installing these pipes, I would have had a lot of trouble with them. Second, the heat shields could fit better at the 2 into 1 junction. I'm a bit obsessive about detail, and I can't seem to get these shields to line up the way I think they should. It's a minor nit, though. Once installed, I started the bike up, and WOW! Nice deep sound, but not harsh, and definitely not too loud. Deeper and less harsh sound than the V&H, and much quieter. The fact that these pipes extend much farther back (about 1 foot or more) away from the rider than the V&H BR also helps with noise reduction at the rider's position. This is with the recommended initial 16 disk setup. You can add disks if you want it louder, or remove disks if you want it quieter. I rode the bike for about two hours and pulled very nicely from idle up to about 3500 rpm. I rarely go past 4000 rpm. Another thing I noticed was that the bike seems to turn over and start easier. The starter doesn't seem to have to work as hard. One other thing. Some people have stated that they didn't like the idle sound from these pipes, describing the sound as "pfft, pfft, pfft". One person even described the sound as that of a VW. I didn't noticed that at all. The idle is a nice and deep rumble. It reminded me of some Rinehart pipes I have heard. Anyway, so far I am very pleased with the performance of these pipes, and my ears are loving it.
