so good, i bought it twice! ;>
Ok... funny thing. I had a copy of this book from like 5 yrs ago (almost to the day!), so I must REALLY like it! LOL (Right after the newest copy arrived, the old one's spine broke.) There are a lot of things in here for a lot of different symptoms and she gives you a way to deal w/ each one from a 0 to 6 level (where 6 is major intervention on the medical side). The 2s & 3s seem to involve homeopathic remedies (2) then herbs (3), along w/ a good dose of nice hot baths, down time away from everyone (including up to a "Crone's Year Away during the most difficult year), and meditation. :)She would call us "baby crones." lol It's all about not seeing it as a problem, but seeing it as re-birthing yourself into the Wise Old Woman (you know the one w/ those sharp, sparkling eyes who doesn't really care what everyone else thinks! ;>) and allowing yourself the time to adjust. There's an entire chapter on how to manage the hot flushes/flushes (besides herbs, there are some mineral supplements and changing to clothes that BREATH (silk blouses, flowing skirts, layers easily peeled off and put back) and recognizing that the flashes (including night sweats) are really flashes of ***Kundalini Energy.*** ;> Those flashes are what some men spend a lifetime trying to bring about as "enlightenment." Kind of throws a whole new perspective on it, doesn't it? ;>Note: St. Joan's Wort is really St. John's Wort when you check the latin (botanical) name.

Inspired Handbook for Menopause
This book works on so many levels. First of all, it's a practical handbook, a detailed road map for the entire menopausal process with a wealth of information on what to expect and what your options are. Organized by symptom, it offers a wide range of practical tips for taking GOOD care of yourself through all the various symptoms that may crop up. (The discussion on calcium was particularly helpful for me.) Woven through all the practical information is deep inspiration for embracing the change as healthy, normal transformation. Grandmother Growth, the wise elder voice, pipes in at regular intervals to ever so gently and kindly lead you forward. In a culture that makes a joke or a problem out of menopause, this book asserts that the menopausal transformation is deep and important -- an initiation, really. So to top it all off, "ritual interludes" are inserted at a few key turning points, offering suggestions for how to mark your passage. With honesty and humor Susun Weed orchestrates an amazing amount of information into a well-organized whole. After reading several more medically oriented books and leaving feeling more confused about hormone therapy and less confident about whether my symptoms were even normal menopause or something else, I now have Susun Weed a.k.a. Grandmother Growth reassuring me that all I am experiencing is normal and healthy -- and not only that, it's OK to take time away! Thank you Susun Weed.

Awesome info but I don’t like the author
Great info, but I don’t recommend the author as a person at all- stay away…She has such a cult following despite her many abuses of others in the herbal community. Got this used. Wish people would hold her accountable. Used to really look up to her until I met her in person at the Midwest Womens Herbal Conference. Yikes. Go to the Great Lakes Herb Faire instead!!

Learn what I'm sure your gyno has no clue about.
Just started reading this after reading an excerpt online. What makes me sad is that, by and large, there is no wisdom passed down from generations... we get told by our doctors what to do. My experience... gynos don't know about hormones and how they work or herbs or child birthing... after having two kids i don't want my uterus in the hands of the medical professionals again... and after having my mom just laugh at me and tell me i was "just stressed" when i asked her if she thought i may be entering menopause (and I'm 41... she just said "no, you're too young!") I have finally found the wisdom in this book that is sadly missing from our culture of quick-fixes and youth fixation. It has been stripped away... women, take it back. Learn and tell your daughters. I have sons but someday i'll tell my granddaughters. Learn ALL you can about your body and how it works. Some people may be put off by the "new agey" stuff... laugh at it if you must but look past it at the author's research and organization. There is so much valuable info in this book that I have never found anywhere else. Knowledge is power. Get this book so your gyno can't commandeer your body.

Very good information
Someone mentioned this book in an Amazon review that I had read so I thought I give it a try. It does have a lot of information in it. My cholesterol have been creeping up to the point where the doctor wants to put me on statins. I don't like what I've read about some of the side effects so I haven't done it. This book recommended Cholestene, a natural product. I read the reviews on Amazon for this product and they were very favorable reviews so I bought some. I'll know if it works for me the next time I have my cholesterol tested. The book also recommended Motherwort for hot flashes, and night sweats. I also am trying that. The Motherwort has reduced the number and intensity of the sweats so I am happy with that. There is a lot of good information in this book. I think it is a good resource and I am glad I purchased the book.
