Powered by 2 standard C sized batteries, rechargables also work well. The instrument handle utilizes a bayonet luer-locking mechanism for changing the multiple instrument heads included in the kit. The luer locking style is guaranteed to never wear out. The Otoscope lens is an Optical quality GLASS that is specially-coated to help resist scratches. The lens is hinged and swings out of the way if needed for foreign body removal or cleaning. The otoscope also contains an all metal insufflation outlet. The kit also includes an expandable nasal speculum, a bent arm trans-illuminator with a tongue blade holder, tongue blade, and 2 attachable #3 and #4 laryngeal mirrors useful for examination of the oro-pharynx. Works well enough for me. Couldn't bring myself to buy the $500+ Welch Allyn kit that pretty much doesn't offer that much of an advantage plus it will hurt 5 times less if this gets misplaced for an indefinite period of time.

A solid four-star product.
Very useful. I hesitate to provide only four stars instead of five. Four-and-a-half?I've used the major-name W-A in the past, and this isn't that. It's also 75% less money, so can they be compared?My dog had an eye injury recently which prompted me to purchase this, and it was very helpful to track his progress and provide updates to the specialist.One the plus-side - it works just as I'd expect having used high-end units. On the minus - the one I have is not very granular for light intensity adjustment. It's very difficult to adjust the light low enough for the more sensitive eyes of some animal species. The optics at higher magnification aren't the most fantastic I've seen, but they're certainly usable. Quick home opthalmoscopic exam? Sure. I wish the head had slit and grid, but [shrug]I was also able to use the otoscope to avoid a trip to the ER, no foxtail in the inner canal, just a scratch to the outer ear. That saved trip paid for the unit.Yeah, let's go with a solid four stars.

Not what I ordered
I'm a veterinarian and I live in Nicaragua. I bought this product for my everyday practice. Althought the product works properly and I have no complaints with the ophtalmoscope or the otoscope, I must say that i got the wrong product. I live in Nicaragua and had this brought to me by a friend. I have no way to send it back and it's really dissapointing for me because is not what I ordered. I paid the price for this one and i got the cheap one. Frustrating.

It was good while it lasted. I bought it for one one of my classes and it broke after about a month and a half of usage.
