Q: Can I useit on the floor, for extra storage?

I would not buy, this is garbage. Flimsy, slides all over as it has cheap plastic tips. I would not recommend buying this. I sent mine back and got a refund.

There are two shelves in a package. :) Those are not attached to each other, but those can be stacked up.
