The absolute best tortilla press!
Absolutley love my new tortilla press! My family loves my homemade tortillas, but it was rare when i did make them because my last metal tortilla press didn't flatten the dough out right and it was a pain to work with. I decided one day I needed to invest in a better press and found this here on amazon. It really is a heavenly press and wonderful to work with and so beautiful too! it arrived very fast and flattens the tortillas out evenly and perfectly! it even improved the way they cooked.Lovely workmanship and such a nice piece of kitchen ware to display on my countertop. Because of this press I will be making more homemade corn tortillas for my family!I attached a few photos of my tortillas cooking on the grill and one after it was pressed. You do need to use some plastic to be able to remove the tortillas (that goes for any press) I like to use a ziplock bag cut in half.

EXCELLENT!!!
I've been making tortillas, both corn and flour, since I was three years old--that's 67 years! So, IMHO, I know whereof I speak (or write, as the case may be).Customer service is important to all of us. How many times have you placed an order and have the product in hand in three days? Not too many, I'd wager. I placed my order on Wednesday, August 17, 2016; it was shipped that day and I received it today, August 20th and just in time for lunch! You may think, "What? Almost $60 (including shipping) for a tortilla press? I can get one for $______ ." Yes, you can, but not all presses are created equal. In my lifetime, I have owned more than 20 presses; this one easily surpasses them all. It looks beautiful in the photos on Amazon and it's equally impressive "in person." Keep in mind that this is a hand-crafted product; it's sturdy. If a tank would run over it, the tank would most likely throw a tread. Well, okay, I'm exaggerating, but you get the idea.Using it is easy, even for an old geezer like me. If you've never used one before, there's a slight learning curve, learning the position of the dough ball and the pressure to apply to get the size and thickness you desire. Heed the advice of other reviewers and use a plastic freezer bag (don't use a thinner bag as peeling the dough off will be more difficult) to prevent sticking. Just be sure to cut it to the size of the press; don't leave ends overhanging as the dough may tear due to the plastic curling. But even if that happens, just roll the dough into a ball again and press. And as noted in the Q&A section, this is for CORN tortillas only.I can't say enough good things about this product, and NO--I'm not a member of the family, a friend or being compensated for this review. The press really is that good!

It's nice enough as to where I would love to display ...
So I had to wait until I actually made corn tortillas with this press to leave a review. As you can tell by the photo's provided by the maker that this is a stunning piece of wood work. It's nice enough as to where I would love to display it, but space in my kitchen is sparse si ti stays in its shipping box until needed. I've been considering a corn tortilla press for years now, but was hesitant because the cast ones break. I'd rather spend $70 for an unbreakable than $25 on a breakable. I want to pass my tortilla maker on to family after I croak. This fits the bill. Now onto the important stuff. I ordered the 10 inch which is the perfect size after measuring store bought corn tortillas. I researched corn tortilla recipes for a year and ended up using the New York Times recipe that Mark Bittman created called 'almost from scratch corn tortillas'. It's the best recipe out there. I followed the recipe which turned out soft, pliable dough. This press turned out 12 of the most perfect corn tortillas I've ever seen. My wife and i were shocked. I lined it with both sides of a plastic ziplock bag, put a ping pong ball sized piece of dough between the plastic, closed it and then pressed it and the tortillas came out perfect every time. This was also the very first time I've ever made tortillas so this is easy. The end result blows away store bought.Save yourself the years of research i did and just buy this press. The others are cheap junk. Just make sure and follow the instructions and oil it with food grade mineral oil once or twice a year and this press will last forever. Oh yeah, it's also a piece of art so if you have the room to leave it out, do it.

Beautiful and functional
This is a truly well designed piece of kitchen equipment. I started looking for a new tortilla press because the one that I have (metal, pretty inexpensive) does not make flat tortillas - they end up looking like wedges, and try as I might, I cannot make them nice and flat.I found this one on Amazon and emailed the artisan who creates them. He explained to me what width of tortilla to expect and how he ensures that the tortilla will be flat. Basically, it is well designed and will make consistently thin tortillas (about 1/16 of an inch or 2mm) every time. The press is beautifully made and works perfectly every single time. I like it so much that I keep it on my counter all the time. Making tortillas is so easy now that I do it even on weeknights for dinner.I cannot speak highly enough of this product or the excellent customer service I received by Jason of Central Coast Woodworks.(No, I did not receive a discount or a free product, I just love it this much!)
