Sesamee KCR0436 4 Dial Bottom Resettable Combination Chrome Plated Padlock with 1-Inch Hardened Steel Shackle and 10000 Potential Combinations

(update 2015-2-10) After reading through a few other reviews for this lock, I discovered I wasn't the only one experiencing the problem. I put some bicycle chain oil into the two openings on the top of the lock and moved the latch around a bit, and now the lock isn't sticking anymore. If your Sesamee lock gets a bit sticky, try this before giving up on it. (original review) I use this lock with a chain for my bike. This lock certainly is hefty and instills confidence, and I've left it out in the rain many times without issue. I've been using it for awhile now, and it's gotten "sticky". Now when I set the dials to the combination to open it, I have to jiggle and yank on it for 10-20 seconds before it springs open. I'm nervous that one day it just won't open and I'll have to spend a chunk of money to get it cut off. More worrisome, sometimes after I close the lock and start to walk away I hear it click back open. I have to go back and close it again. One of these days it'll probably not fully latch when I close it, but only pop open when I'm gone, leaving my bike free for whoever walks by. Summary: I recommend getting a different lock. This worked great for awhile, but now "stickiness" has made it a risky lock to use.

I have had quite a few locks of this style. Master, Abus, and Sesamee. All three will stop spinning at ZERO when you spin the wheels in the down direction. This is very handy since it allows you to open the lock in the dark, by spinning to all zeros and then counting the clicks on each wheel to you get to your combination. The Sesamee marine versions both chrome and brass are by far the best. They take the most abuse and give me the least trouble. The Abus seem to malfunction quickly with dirt etc. The Master locks work well, but they no longer make a marine version like this. They have a similar (Master model 1174D) all stainless one. I am sure the stainless is harder to cut than the brass, but my experience with the 1174D (although it is supposed to stop spinning at ZERO) you can force it past the ZERO with a little pressure. Opening the master 1174D in the dark is not as easy as the Sesamee. The body of the 1174D is also larger than the Sesamee. I recently had a chrome Sesamee fail to open (rare event) I sent it back to them and they were able to open it, and return it to me. The combination had changed somehow. My only cost was postage of the lock to their location in Illinois. It is a good product with good customer service.

I purchased these locks for 3 outdoor gates. I wanted a combination lock that was sturdy, weather resistant, and easy for maintenance workers to operate. A total waste of money in my opinion. The combination wheels are difficult to turn, and after just a few months only turn in one direction ( the instructions say DO NOT USE WD-40.) They are difficult to close because the locking mechanism is spring loaded and rarely works on the first attempt. Worst of all, somehow the locks are now stuck in the locked position and are worthless, and I never changed the combination ( I don't know how, as I tossed the instructions after I set the codes) I logged on my account to return them, only to see a notification that they are no longer eligible for return. Not expensive, but still a total waster of money. I've just replaced them with the Master Lock Magnum Key locks. As much as I didn't want a keyed system, I don't think a reliable outdoor combination lock exists. These Sesmee's were my last hope, and they had numerous good reviews.

I have had this padlock on a dock box for 2 years with constant exposure to salt spray. The lock looks and works like new, I have used many locks over the years and all of them would be ruined by now, the brass ones get so crusty you cant read the numbers and have to keep wire brushing the numbers and oiling them. I have never oiled this lock, it is shiny and perfect still. Well worth the money. UPDATE!!!! When setting combination, you must insert the pin COMPLETELY into the hole otherwise some of the numbers change and the lock is ruined because you do not know the combination. I ruined one this way, a brand new lock into the garbage. Now I know why many reviews complain about this. The pin is fiddly and the directions are in very fine print on the package, i got my glasses out after ruining the first one and i suspect many others are doing the same thing.... be careful.

I use this lock for going to the gym and locking my locker. Nothing else. I can say for that purpose this is a great lock. Even though it may be slight overkill for a gym lock, I like the fact that I can leave my wallet, car keys, and phone/ipod without second guessing their security. I also like that it is a 4- digit combo lock made for outdoor marine conditions. I frequently use this lock after swimming in a saltwater pool when my hands are still dripping wet and the dials still remain easy to move and rust free. The paint surrounding the numbers on the dials, however, has started to come off in places. I don't mind at all because I can still see all numbers perfectly but if you are going to be using this in a rougher application like boating than it may be something to consider. The picture is slightly misleading as other reviewers have also stated, the "Sesamee" logo is not blue. Instead the logo is etched into the chrome, something I wasn't expecting. I would rather the blue logo personally. The reason I subtracted the star is mainly because I went to lock my locker one day and was having difficulty doing so. I took a closer look and realized the hook piece that you lock down was slightly bent to one side. This was causing the hook to catch on the body of the lock when locking/unlocking making it stubborn to operate. I held the lock down when I got home and whacked the hook with a hammer bending the piece back so it's straight and no longer catches.The first couple weeks this was not an issue. The only place this lock goes, besides being on the locker, is in my gym bag that gets brought inside and set on the carpet. I am not sure how a hardened metal padlock can bend in a gym bag without it falling off a building but it happened... which makes me somewhat question the quality overall with the addition of the paint coming off in certain areas.

We live along the coast and most metal left outside corrodes quickly. Our last "weather resistant" padlock for our gate made it three years before corrosion prevented it from locking. We've had this Sesamee lock on the gate for about six months and it shows absolutely no signs of corrosion. In addition to being impervious to salty ocean breezes, this lock feels very well built with tight tolerances. The appearance is nice with a high quality chrome finish. It is by far the nicest padlock that I have ever seen. I highly recommend this lock, especially if it will be exposed to harsh weather.

nothing bad to say about this product. works great. about 3 times heavier than your typical single-dial masterlock that people use on the gym lockers. compared to the said masterlock it is twice as easy to use when nobody is behind you, but harder to use when you have to make sure nobody can see your combination. i still give this lock the edge because it is more solid, has more positive action and, most importantly, doesn't force me to remember some random numbers because with this lock i can use the same combination on as many locks as i want and i can use whatever combination i already remember, and if anybody figures it out i can easily change it. finally, this lock is great because the chrome plating prevents the lead in the brass body from rubbing onto your hands. just an awesome lock. only downside for some people may be the weight - it is pretty heavy - but i personally like that.

Had this lock for 9 years. Locked up a bike shed, but this shed is on the Atlantic coast. Right up on the dunes. The combination lock numbers (black ink on chrome) faded and got tough to read, and the lock started to stick shut. WD-40 fixed the sticking, but I decided to retire this one and buy the same one. Great and reliable if you are near the salt water, or any corrosive air you can think of.

These locks seem very sturdy and are easy to setup. The feature that stops the numbers from rolling back past 0 is great for entering the combination in the dark. Since I've only had them a short time I have yet to see how they'll hold up to the snow and rain.

I bought 2. One on shed seems to be working fine, but the one I bought for the back of my trailer after 2 days driving on snowy roads, wouldn't open so I had to cut it off. I don't know if it was ice or gravel but will not buy another one. :-(

This padlock is surprisingly heavy and will certainly deter amateur thieves. It also works in temperatures of at least -20C without any problems. Great product.

This is really excellent, exceptionally well-made padlock. I have just purchased my second one. The first has been outdoors for a year and works perfectly. Make sure you keep the special tool for changing the code - it won't work with just anything pushed in the hole.
