Love these Dominant Strings!
I read a lot of reviews and did a lot of internet reach about strings before buying these. I'm an adult learner and had been on the fence about a string upgrade. Most reviews I saw on Amazon and YouTube had positive comments about these strings. I'm a fan of the Online Violin and Piano Tutor, and she recommended Dominant strings for students (https://youtu.be/sJlKqUp9W5I). It's been a couple of months now, and I am glad I got the Dominant strings! The E string that came with this set, I broke because I was foolish enough to try changing it myself after watching a "how-to" video. Not as easy to do as the video made it look. So this review is just for the Dominant strings. The E string I ended buying at the luthier's shop was Kaplan's squeakless E, which I have also been happy with. The first couple of weeks required a lot of tuning, much more so than the D'addario Prelude strings that were on my violin before. But now they seem to have settled and stay in tune much better than the Preludes. The tone is clearer too.The G string Prelude used to vibrate profusely and felt thick, producing a buzzing sound and feel when played. The Dominant G string is not as loose and not as thick, the G produces a clearer sound without the extra buzz.My old A and E strings would squeak on the higher notes. I have noticed less squeaking with these new strings. These strings also feel more comfortable on my fingers.I am very happy I bought these strings and would highly recommend them to other adult learners.

But I LOVE these strings
Just some background first -- I have been playing the violin as an amateur for nearly 40 years. One could say that I have a lot of RAW talent -- emphasis on RAW -- and a nearly complete lack of private training. I played all through public school and have played in a community orchestra for 24 years. I do not get to practice at home very often, as I am a full-time high school English teacher and mom of two. So I am not really a soloist. I play a handmade violin I purchased from a former stand partner and luthier that is probably worth about $5000, using a Seifert bow worth about $300. I would say that I play my violin, on average, about three hours a week. Now that you understand my playing habits, take this review as you will. But I LOVE these strings. They are affordable, sound fantastic (I especially love the purity of the Pirastro E) and are durable. I am about to purchase them again after having last bought this set FOUR YEARS ago. I know, I know -- I should be doing it more often; they say generally after 300 hours of playing, so I'm about double that now. But I can tell you they will definitely last!

I have watched a ton of videos and was having a ton of fun. I happened across a few articles and videos ...
I do not often leave reviews but I had to for this product. I have been practicing on my inexpensive $100 Violin for about 3 weeks now. I have watched a ton of videos and was having a ton of fun. I happened across a few articles and videos that said if you start with the inexpensive equipment you must get a new bow, rosin and strings. Having invested so little in the hobby thus far and having noticeable scratching which was BEYOND my control on the D string I decided to purchase some upgrades.First to arrive was the $67.99 Fiddlerman carbon fiber bow. This bow was so much smoother and precise then the standard Brasilwood bow that came with the starter kit I was using.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K0NZQHY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01Second to arrive was the Pirastro Goldflex Rosin which cost about $15.00. This addition was amazing as well. The student rosin I put on the first box took scoring with car keys and about 20 minutes of total work. The addition of the Goldflex onto the new carbon fiber bow took under 60 seconds in total and it was so smooth you could tell from the application of the rosin onto the bow when you had enough "drag". So smooth and a a completely different product then the student rosin I was using.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BNG668?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00Thirdly, the strings. Ohh the srings...I got the standard $51 Dominant set with the "gold" E string. I watched a video on how to change them out and 15 minutes later I had a nice quality bow, excellent rosin (central Florida) and the "go to" strings.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000V6E01I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s02I placed the bow on the strings and played twinkle twinkle like twinkle twinkle was meant to be played. After three weeks of practice, what felt like a dud D string and a ton of scratching had set me up to play a beautiful twinkle twinkle for the first time. That first three weeks of frustration simply melted away as the new bow and smooth rosin each flowed like syrup over each new string with not a scratch one.If you are just starting out like me, and have a less expensive setup, please remember that there is a reason why the stock strings only cost $2.50, because they only cost $0.30 to manufacture!Enjoy your new hobby! Now only if you could throw a little money at music theory to get that figured out! Haha.

Beautiful Sound
These were easy to install. All the reviews on their sound are accurate. They sound exactly how I wanted rich and warm, not screeching. I will buy again.

Meets my needs
While I have limited exposure to other strings, this “go to” standard seems to work for me. I’m a bit frustrated that the A-strings seem to pop rather frequently, but I don’t change strings on a regular basis. I like the sound and playability and wouldn’t know what to expect from a different string. Once broken in (not more that 3 or 4 days of casual playing) they are quite stable. This vendor seems top notch. My violin is a late 1800’s german model.
