Very good product at a great price
All my kitchen knives are kept sharp, with this device I can take them to extremely sharp to just plain ludicrous! It takes a while to learn how to achieve the best possible edge, but once mastered the results are remarkable. The over all quality and construction is very good and should last a long time with proper care. Beware, changing stones should be done over a table, they are long and thin and will not survive a fall to the floor. Note: ludicrous level will actually shave hair off ones skin, but is not good for kitchen use as the edge will fold easily and go dull. Very hard knives take a bit longer, but the edge lasts a long time.

Seems like a good sharpener with 1 exception
Built well for price and does a good job sharpening. The major negative is that the stones are cheap and they don't lock in to the holder well (no indention in stones so wont clip into the metal clips ..1 already fell out and broke in half!

Impressive
Impressive. Disclaimer, I didn't use the stones. I went straight to the RUIXIN PRO 8 Pcs Diamond Knife Sharpening Stones sold in here and sharpened 5 knives in an hour. The reason it took that long is these knives haven't been properly sharpened in a decade and were closer to hammers than knives. Three of the knives were Shun Classics which are my wife's favorite. I can't say I know how she did it but one of them had several 1/16th or bigger chunks out of the edge. I didn't have much hope for that one but I stayed on the lowest grit in the diamonds and basically removed a 1/16th all the way along the edge. Worked great, but took a bit. That one knife was easily half an hour. All of the knives easily pass the paper slicing test. Pretty impressive at the price. Yes, it's all a bit finicky and you have to wash all of the china off the parts to get them working properly (I used wd40). The collars can move and change your angle if you're not careful with them and I suspect if you have no mechanical knowledge at all this could be tricky but all in all I don't regret the purchase.

Not impressed
The system is good. Has some learning curve but that's expected on any system. The stones, however, are really cheap. When opening them, I could see the quality was not all there. They are thin and flimsy. The spring on the stone arm isn't long enough to apply a lot of pressure, but you're counting on a hand tightened metal surface holding a wet stone. Needless to say, it slips all the time. With that, I have to stop a lot more to fix the stone, make sure it doesn't get stuck, make sure it doesn't fall, etc. Inevitably, one fell and you can see the results in the picture. Now I'll have to wait, get new stones or diamonds and try again. What was supposed to make my life easier and help speed things up, only slowed it down. Took me about 30 min to do one knife and it's not even that sharp.

This works very well once you figure it out.
What I like:1)The pretty secure mount to a table, etc..2) It has 2 long matching metal plates that uses more than 3 bolts for upper and lower knife adjustments and it secures the blade very very well.3) It is very easy to use once you get it set up, preferably next to a water source for keeping the stones wet.4) You can get the blades of your knives razor sharp.5) It is just a matter of pulling to flip the knife over to the other side safely. What I don't like:1) It takes time and patience to get this set up. But once it's set up, it easy to use.2) I am going to switch out many of the bolts so they will be easier to use and tighten. I have to use a pair of pliers to get some of them tight enough to hold for any long time use and maintaining a constant angle.3) It's tricky getting the angle you want. I down loaded an app on my phone to get the angle then I made scratch line where when I set it up again, I would have the angle I want.4) It's a little pain in the tail screw and unscrew the bolts when changing knives, but it is what it is. This has got the most secure blade holder you can get.

Do Not Purchase! Horrible prouct!
I used this on two knives. It broke on the first one, but I tried working it out to make it through. First the instructions are terrible. I could make it past that because the process of sharpening knives isn't too difficult. As soon as I started using the sharpener, two screws started stripping. The screw holding the guide rod to the unit that holds the stone stripped and wouldn't maintain the position needed for sharpening. I even tried super gluing the rod in place and it held long enough for me to finish the two knives I was working with, then it came undone. Two of the stone provided cracked in half just by attempting to use them. The instructions show stones attached to a base piece that fits in the handle piece. None of the stones came in with the base attached and there wasn't any base pieces provided. Long story short, none of the retaining pieces can be screwed in to maintain specific angles, none of the screws that hold things in place work because they strip out also. The stone provided are cheap and break apart with very little pressure, let alone day to day application. PLEASE, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CHEAP HUNK OF JUNK! I've purchased two of these units, the first one lasted about two months before it broke apart and was useless. I figured it was user error and purchased a second sharpener, same type, but more expensive. I thought I would get more for the extra money. This one was broken within five minutes of use. TERRIBLE PRODUCT AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!
