The ideal transformer toy
Holy crap, Hasbro! If I could give this 6 out of 5 stars, I would. If you’re like me, transformers toys inevitably disappoint. Sure Hasbro makes them look all dramatic and well sculpted with an alternate mode that makes you question the laws of physics. And then you buy it, and always it turns out that they were deceiving you in some way. The worst offenders are: it’s a partsformer, or it has exposed robot-part syndrome, or faux alternate mode parts, or unsightly kibble that they cleverly hid from you with their camera angle. And in addition to this, things don’t tab in properly, or cheaply made hinges pop off while you scream at them while trying to align things with micrometer precision just to get the robot to even approximate its ultimate form.Well, I am here to say, none of that happens with this figure.I recently reviewed the studio 86 Blurr figure, and I thought he was fantastic. In fact, I figured that Seargent Kup would be comparable in quality.Boy was I wrong! If you grew ip in the 80’s or 90’s and loved transformers, you know how you’d always wished the versions of Seargent Kup could live up to his potential? Well this is that figure you have always wanted! He has excellent articulation, a beautiful sculpt, joints that are neither too stiff or too loose,—and that transformation!Where the hell have the engineers that they recruited to design this figure been? Have they all simply been away on secret black ops missions all this time, and only now retired to live as Transformers-designing civilian engineers?I mean, what the hell Hasbro? Did your CEOs travel to the Himalayan mountains and experience transcedent spiritual transformations, where they achieved oneness with all Transformers fans, and the pain from all thise years of being profoundly disappointed by lackluster $20 Transformers figures finally thawed the permafrost of their stone-cold hearts? That transformation is perfect! It is neither too simple, nor too difficult, and, get this: everything tabs in perfectly and securely, with minimal effort! This is the finest Transformers engineering you will see without buying a Masterpiece figure.Of course, no figure is perfect, but this is as clise to perfect as possible. A minor quibble is that the back wheels are too tight. But you know what? I DGAF about that when there is so much that this figure does right!Fantastic work, Hasbro. And to everyone else, go buy this figure, now!

Nostalgia!
Ever since childhood, I've been a big fan of the G1 Transformers. I still have the ones I had as a kid. I've been pleased to see the re-releases based on them, only now they're far more articulate and closer to the show (or comics) than the originals were. So naturally, now I like to collect them to display them. I'm glad to add Kup to my collection. What's really cool is that the Transformers: The Movie series includes an iconic backdrop that you can use when you put the figures on display. I'll be collecting more of them as there are several and that movie had a huge influence on (and somewhat traumatized) my generation.

I really like the SS86’ versions.
My Kup arrived in a timely manner and well packaged. Decently priced as well. No problem whatsoever. I still haven’t opened it as well as the other figures I got soon after. Box is in new great condition. I’m just happy and satisfied with this edition from the movie. I’ve been too busy to try them out. I regret never buying more transformer figures when they came out in 84’-86. Perhaps I will report back after I open it. Just too excited on all the figures I got so far.

Not Bad. A bit Fiddly
Kup is a pretty good take on the 86 animated Transformers The Movie. He is a good representation of the character. The colors are nice and the overall look is right. There are a lot of nice things about him.He is a bit of a fiddly figure to get transformed. I feel like there were a LOT of extra steps to get him transformed than there really needed to be. We have had some other characters that transform into a shape similar to this, and the transformation was quite intuitive. This one, not so much. And everything needs to be right in place, or the truck mode will not be straight, and most of the panels will not line up.I like that they gave us Kup with removable arms and legs. In the movie, Hot Rod saves Kup, and all Kup can say is "fix me." Well fix him Hot Rod did. One missing arm and one missing leg. What I don't like is that Kup did not come with any wrist articulation. What gives? That really limits the playability of the figure. I did not think the lack of wrist articulation was even a thing any more with Transformers.I do like him overall. I really appreciate that the Studio Series is going back to cover figures from the best Transformers movie. He is part of a good collection of figures from that time period. They look right and they feel right.

Accurate to the movie
These look almost exactly as they did in the Transformers Movie. Very soundly built. Can be a little difficult on some of the models to transform with the directions, but able to figure it out.

THE MOVIE COMES TO LIFE
a friend of mine had the G1 version of this, it wasn't as detailed or as hard to transform as this one, now, i'm not saying that's a bad thing. as a transformers i want ones i can be proud to display.. this is perfect.
