RootsMagic 6 Family Tree Genealogy Software [OLD VERSION]

The reasons I purchased RootsMagic 6 was how it was suppose to interact with FamilySearch and to gain all the program extras that were not available on RootsMagic Essentials, the free version of the software. I was extremely disappointed that nowhere was it stated by Amazon nor RootsMagic Inc. that version 6 could not interact with the current version of FamilySearch because it was developed for the old version of that program and is incompatible with the current version. Even on the software package it states "Full LDS and FamilySearch support". I know that RootsMagic has not purposely tried to mislead me, however, in emails sent to me by them, they did not disclose this fact which would have caused me to not purchase this particular version of the software. As for the software itself, I think it is among the best (if not the best) of its kind out there. That said, look into this software for your genealogy needs but PLEASE purchase version 7 or higher or you will not be getting the full benefit of the program nor your money's worth.

It actually read my Fam Tree Maker file, fairly accuracy. Had it not applied notes a little oddly, I'd give it another star. So simple Fact 1 (which does not exist? in the RM?) becomes "Moved" or some such. No real problem. This is far easier. I miss my old FTW 14 from years ago. It laid out right and easy to use, but over time, the lack of support by FTM for the format made it difficult to update or search. FTM changed formats with their 2010 and 2012 versions and I have refused to update since. Those really suck puttyballs. Very difficult to use and move around in.Thus, RM went back to a far easier interface to use. So I was happy to find someone that could provide info and not data mine my research like a coffee swilling beaver. I don't owe my research to F T M.

It's a great program. Full featured, FAST, and very easy to work with. I've been using it since RM4 and I still love it. My database has over 50,000 entries and the program has never failed me - not one time.

It is the easiest to use, full-featured genealogy software. It synchronizes well with FamilySearch. The information is presented in an easy-to-understand display. It has all the usual reports that are easily accessed. I have used Personal Ancestral File, Legacy 8.0, FamilyTreeMaker and Ancestral Quest, and I like RootsMagic best. Oddly, I am unable to synchronize Legacy 8.0 to FamilySearch. When I got their tech support, I was told that a lot of users had that problem, and some even had to erase and resinstall Windows to get it to work. Way too much work and risk to make Legacy worth it.

Gift for a relative; I've used RootsMagic 6 (& now 7) for 2 years & find it easy to use, graphically pleasing, & completely satisfactory. You can also get a trial copy for free; the same goes for many other genealogy software, so it's easy to choose which one you like.

Happy to report this version will work on Windows 10. Not much for instructions came with this software but it does seem very intuitive to use. The price of this version was just too good not to give it a try. Glad I did.

i like this quite well, The only reason i gave it 4 stars is because i really haven't had time to get in depth with it. It does seem to have all that i am needing for my genealogy family trees. Looking forward to getting to work with it.,
