Weichuan Dumpling Sauce

IMHO, there is never enough sauce in those tiny packets that come with frozen dumplings. I’ve been looking for a back up for a while. It’s strange, but there aren’t a lot of dumpling sauces out there. This one is tasty.

I often order dumplings from my favorite Chinese takeout restaurant, but I find their dumpling sauce way too spicy for my taste - I am, admittedly, a spice-wimp. This sauce is very much like the dumpling sauces that I get at Chinese restaurants, only not 'burn your tongue' spicy. I have seen a few reviews that claim this sauce doesn't taste like the sauces that come with frozen dumplings, and I would agree with that. The sauces that come with the frozen dumplings are reformulated for American tastes and lack the zing of a real Chinese sauce. This sauce is more authentic, therefore 'better,' but everyone has their own tastes...

Perfect flavor

We had found this in our local grocery store and tried it then they didn't carry any more the next time we tried to get it. It is a decent dipping sauce but may be a slight bit on the salty side. I know it's made with soy sauce which is salty so that would probably be why. I did just get another bottle since it still is the best one that I found. Still a good sauce.

FINALLY , A GREAT POT STICKER SAUCE . I tried to make my own because how hard is it? Well apparently there’s a finesse I’m lacking. This makes a mediocre pot sticker a good one by coating it in this luscious sauce. Don’t hesitate to buy it. I rarely give 5 stars so there’s that….. 😏

I was excited to try this sauce because it has really good reviews. I opened the bottle and it smelled extremely bad. I checked and saw that it wasn’t expired so I tried it. It tasted nothing like the ingredients that were stated in the product. It made me throw up afterwards. It actually tasted and smelled like a cigarette. My friend who smokes tried it and he said it does taste like a cigarette. The product was completely sealed when I bought it so I doubt it was tampered with. I can’t return the product so it was just a waste of money.

This is similar in taste to a dumpling sauce that a local grocery store use to sell but no longer carries. It’s great if you are looking for a dumpling sauce that isn’t as spicy. You don’t need to use a lot of it to dip the dumplings into, to add the extra flavor you need to elevate the flavor of the dumplings. Note: it can be a bit salty if you use too much accidentally, so start out with a little bit at a time to figure out what works best for you.
