Great customer service cannot make up for an inferior product
My experience with New Trent has not been a positive one. To date, I have used two of New Trent's mobile device chargers. Neither proved to be reliable.I purchased the PowerPak + 13500mAh in December 2013, having read many wonderful reviews. I had to return it six months later because it failed to charge. By that time I had used it twice-not particularly encouraging.I contacted customer service, who requested that I send the lemon back to them, which I did. I was then told that the PowerPak + 13300mAh had been discontinued, and that they could offer an NT140R as a replacement. No mention was made as to what could have been wrong with the dud, they just wanted to send a replacement. This raised my suspicion that New Trent makes products of inconsistent quality, but that they keep lemon-buyers like me quiet by promptly shipping them replacements. The replacement is a joke. At full capacity it could not charge an iPad IV- then at 21% charging capacity-beyond 85% before it ran out of juice. Now I want my money back.I have no faith whatsoever in the New Trent's products. I will never buy a New Trent product again, regardless of how many glowing reviews they receive. Great customer service does indeed help, and it is wonderful that NT replaces duds with no questions asked. But the fact remains that I did not get what I paid for. What good is responsive customer service when the product is a useless pieces of $%&^* that doesn't live up to the spurious claims of its manufacturer?

Excellent.
I did a lot of research before buying an external battery pack and landed on this particular one. I wanted something that could charge my phone multiple times (the higher mAh the better) that could also handle my ipad, gopro, or ps vita. This product can handle all of those. There are 2 usb ports on here, one for phones, and a higher rated one for tablets and other things that require more power. I found if you want to charge your phone quicker you can put it in the higher rated usb port with no issues.I used this daily at a convention and I never had that feeling of having to plan around charging my phone (Iphone 5s) The build quality on this feels solid. It's about the size of a portable HDD. Charging is fine and is done with any old micro USB cable plugged into a power source. Note: This doesn't come with an outlet adapter (something like the iphone cube for example) it only comes with a USB cable. The included pouch was a nice touch, but I haven't found myself using it much when I take this out and about, I will put it in the pouch for storing however.I would highly recommend this and for the price it can't be beat.

Exactly what I needed
I just received the New Trent Imp 1000 yesterday, and last night it successfully topped off my phone (Motorola Q9C smart phone), Garmin GPS, and mp3 player. And it still indicated it had a full charge after about 90 minutes of charging. My phone has always been extremely picky about non-OEM chargers, either giving an "incompatible charger" message or indicating it was charging when it really wasn't doing anything, even after being left charging for many hours. With the Imp 1000, however, it worked great and gave the familiar "Charging Complete" message in short order.I had been mulling over the problem of charging my electronic devices while bicycle touring for several years. Every portable device I'd tried was a dismal failure. I tried another battery pack (a big, heavy, 12v, 4500 mAH one that had been used for my lighting system), as well as a portable folding solar panel. Those would charge my tiny mp3 player, but not my cell phone or GPS. I always ended up having to use the wall charger in campground restrooms, restaurants, or the occasional motel. That's great when I'm in a motel, but I often camp out and the only outlets are often in restrooms. I either have to stay in the restroom with the phone while it's charging, or take the chance of it getting stolen if I go back to camp. A real pain. I liked the idea of a solar panel, but from what I've read the only type that has a chance of working is at least a 10-watt rigid panel, which would be quite cumbersome as well as heavy (over 3 pounds), on a bicycle that's already loaded down with 45 pounds or so of bags and gear. The IMP 1000 appears to be very well made, is quite compact and is light enough (8 oz.) for my purposes. It will fit nicely in my handlebar bag and can power my GPS while I'm on the road right from there.I am taking this little thing on a 1000-mile, 6-week tour this summer. With its 11,000 mAH capacity, I'm guessing it will provide plenty of power between motels, which I'll probably get once or twice a week. Will post an update to this after that trip. So far, it looks like a winner!UPDATE - After using this on two bike tours I'm extremely impressed. It kept all my gadgets charged up and never even came close to running out of power itself. I didn't end up using my GPS much, but had the phone turned on 24/7 and it was great never having to worry about it going dead. Also really enjoyed being able to listen to as much music on the mp3 player as I wanted without battery worries. This little thing is a great buy.

Worthless Piece of Garbage
A little over a month ago I purchased both this device and the significantly cheaper Anker® 2nd Gen Astro E3 10000mAh Dual-Port Ultra Compact External Battery Portable USB Charger Power Bank for my kids and I to use on a 5-day backpacking trip. After 24 hours on the trail we went to charge our phones, my son using the Anker and I using the New Trent power pack (both devices had been fully charged right before we left). Much to my surprise, the New Trent wouldn't charge my iPhone at all. My boys tried to charge their older Android phones with it and still nothing. The Anker worked beautifully & provided several more charges over the course of the trip. We got home, I put the power packs away and forgot about them until now. Getting ready for another backpacking trip, I pulled them out & though the New Trent power pack is still showing fully charged, I can't get it to charge anything at all still! I tried to go online to return it but Amazon is showing my window to do that expired yesterday, lovely. Looking online, it appears New Trent doesn't support their products beyond 30 days either unless you registered them online - I didn't do that in my initial hurry to leave on the backpacking trip I bought it for, so now it appears I'm screwed.
