My first introduction to this CD was from a walk by in front of a shop on Pacific Garden Mall in Santa Cruz some ten years ago. It called to me. I bought a copy. No accident. These songs never cease to move me as a dad when I put them on the boom box while doing guy stuff in the garage. As a son, too, I am moved. And,as a brother. God knows I could do better at each. The words and tunes here take me back to images I breathed in during a favorite guy movies, like--Rob Roy--and times when women, as wonderful as they be, are clueless to the mystery of masculine relationships. In a culture often at war with masculinity, yes, grease the guy skids with these tunes I say. And often. Many of MacDonald’s songs are filled with ancestral stories. One of my favorite CD’s. I own two copies, one for a backup to always enjoy.
