Freud PB-009: 1-1/4" (Dia.) Forstner Bit

Works well on plastic. Have to apply light pressure and go slow. Out of the 23 holes I cut, I only got two minor cracks in the plastic. I'd say that was user error as well. Sturdy bit too, I don't see it going dull.Also, it didn't walk at all really. I was drilling on a vertical tub wall as well, so that's actually impressive.

I've been using Forstner bits for over 50 years. The Freud bit is one of the cleanest bits I've ever used. I think I will stick with this brand from now on.

As others have stated, this is perfect for boring sockets for large dowels in projects. The serrated edges seem to do a very good job in creating clean edges. It does a good job pulling shavings out of the bore hole on bit extraction. I was able to use it to bore completely through a small section of 4x4 to make a poor man's mallet with no binding or other issues. For the price, it's a great addition to your drill press.

Had a very specific need and this tool worked great. It will be a nice addition to the other sizes I have in my tool box.

Cuts fast, but many holes are rough on the sides. May need to adjust the speed on the drill press.

This drill makes a neat hole with no tear out.

I did a lot of research on forstner bits before buying this one and choose a Freud Precision Shear based on the shape and reviews.Plunging the bit *very* slowly through pine and oak has given me perfectly smooth, unburnt 1 1/4" circles for a couple projects I did. Very happy with the results. Touching the bit immediately after shutting down the drill press following a cut leaves a warm to the touch bit, definitely not hot. Treating it this way should warrant a long life.I also used it to confirm my drill press was square by drilling four holes in a square shape (2x2) with about 1/8" overlap each way, through 2" thick scrap. I've now got my drill press to within less than 0.2 degrees.

These are the best Forstner bits that I have used. The package is marked made in Austria, possibly made for them by Fisch as the tooth pattern is similar to a smaller Fisch bit that I have. They cut a very clean hole very quickly and the diameter was dead on (at least according to my $25 digital caliper). I cannot yet speak to how long they will stay sharp but will update if there are any concerns though I have yet to have Freud (or Fisch) cutters go dull faster than expected if used correctly (don't force or use at too high a speed which can over heat and ruin their temper).
