The seller could simply include the feet and inches. Yes, do the math, but why should we have to do this for 8 different 'irregular' sized tarps? Majority of the tarps listed on Amazon are listed as Foot x Foot. The person is asking a legitimate question many people are curious to find out about. Unfortunately, I’m not aware of any tarps that are fire retardant. Which is why it’s always good to keep a tube of Shoe Goo in your pack. It’s also unfortunate we have jerks like Stanton answering questions **Q: My understanding is that the tent poles go into the footprint grommets. Why are the grommets in the middle of the pad rather than the strap?** A: Footprints don't need to be secured under your tent, and they should not "cover" the entire tent floor, you aren't stepping into the edges and corners. Tents that require fixation have stake loops, and an independent means (pocket, grommet, etc.) of holding any tent poles. It would be detrimental to have a tent drain rainwater directly down on top of a foorprint; if you wanted to be floating on water, you could have packed a kayak instead, perhaps. Possibly the grommets are for "off-label" use as an aerial tarp? **Q: Does the 71x87" have a seam in it or is it one piece?** A: It is not one single piece of fabric, it has been sewn together with a seam to make a larger tarp. I don't know if the seam will leak, but I certainly did not expect to be getting a patchwork cobbled together item from Goodwill. Be sure this is what you are looking for. It is 210D which, while relatively lightweight, is not dense. It is intended to be a ground cloth but would do duty as an emergency shelter with appropriate ridge and guy lines. I think with this and a space blanket you could make a comfortable shelter for a relatively dry night in the woods.
