Prepping for "The War"
To quote Nighthawk from the future, " I never trusted Mark. Not when He first showed up. and not when he came back, all rehabilitated and safe." " No...I never trusted him not him--" or Ledger for a while, I thought maybe he was strong enough to fight Mark if it came down to that. And he was. But there was something we didn't know about Doc Spectrum that put him Squarely on the ememy's side. But that wasn't his fault, since he didn't know the truth about his powers either. Not then, at least." in this title Supreme Power Gods and Soldiers you get a taste of what Nighthawk was talking about, We get to see Doctor Spectrum and Hyperion back in action, they're the only two of the supers from the original Supreme Power story line to show up, but not the only ones with Power, Hyperion is found from hiding after he tried to Over throw the Government and Doctor Spectrum Struggles with the power crystal like never before, the art pretty good and the story pretty good, wish it was longer.

Last gasp of the Supreme Power line
With this book the Supreme Power line lurches to its death and vanishes down the memory hole. From the start the series held out a promise of a more mature and grounded superhero world and hinted a final conflict between human governments and supermen. But that was never more than a tease.Since creator J Michael Straczynski left the Supremes have had several dreadful and forgettable miniseries (Ultimate Power and the Chaykin Squadron Supreme being the last) but it seemed this series might finally move the story forward. It doesn't.Hyperion returns and there is an effort to rehabilitate and tame him. Then the government gets cold feet and tries to kill him, finally managing to lock him a prison. And we are teased with another possibility, an invasion by Hyperion's people. The end.And this really was the end. The once-mighty Supreme Power universe is later destroyed more-or-less off-panel in an Avengers story.Sure J Michael Straczynski could come back any time and pick up where he left off. Marvel could try this yet again. But at this point does anyone care? This book was fairly competent and well-written and drawn but really accomplished little, it's not worth the trouble of reading.
