Just plain stupid
I knew I was going to be slumming when I streamed this movie, because it's derived from a book by James Patterson, whose so-called writing I avoid like the plague. But I figured with Morgan Freeman in the lead role, it couldn't be a total loss. How wrong I was. It's the perfect cinematic equivalent of a James Patterson book--vapid and chiched, without an iota of originality, depth, or nuance. The acting (Freeman excepted) is stiff and robotic. Freeman's "partner," the blonde bimbo (amazing how many blonde bimbos are cops and FBI agents in movies), is blank faced and unbelievable throughout (but her makeup is perfect). The other actors are phoning in their parts: recite your lines, collect your check, and forget about it.The multiple twists at the end are "groan out loud" and "you've got to be kidding."Freeman was simply collecting a fat paycheck in this film. That's it. I guess he's entitled to be in bad movies.Too bad I had no popcorn. I could have thrown it at the screen.

A good representation of film as it transitioned from the 90's to the 00's.
This film was over-the-top in many ways, you get a strangulation in the first fifteen minutes or so, and you are kind of wondering what's going on in the first twenty minutes. Freeman is excellent as a cop with a "history". The plot is kind of sticky in places, I didn't quite follow who the Russian boy was or why he or his family are important to the plot, seems like they could be a whole different movie. Anyway despite these and other difficulties, I like this film because it is paced well, and reminds me of movies I watched in the 90s growing up. A good way to pass the time I would say, if you have nothing else on your plate.

ONE OF THE FINEST THRILLERS EVER MADE
AS THE FIRST BOOK CHRONICLING THE EXPLOITS OF DR. ALEX CROSS, THE ANTAGONIST KIDNAPS TWO CHILDREN FROM A FAMOUS SCHOOL IN WASHINGTON , D.C., A GIRL AND BOY OF AN IMPORTANT DIPLOMAT. SO AS NOT TO WRITE A SIMPLE NARRATIVE, THE PERSONALTRAITS OF DR. CROSS, AN FBI PROFILING PSYCHOLOGIST COME INTO PLAY. HE HAS CROSSED PATHS WITH THIS CRIMINAL BEFORE THUSTHEY ARE BOTH LIKE HOLMES AND MORIARITY , & KNOW EACH OTHER WELL. THE CHILDREN BEING TAKEN IS THEREFORE NEARLY SECONDARY.CROSS’S MIND IS LIKE A CHESSBOARD, ALWAYS SEVERAL STEPS AHEAD. THE DANGER OF GREAT GRAND CHESS MASTERS IS TO PLAY TOO MANY MOVES AHEAD ON TOO MANY DIFFERENT GAMES, INDUCING INSANITY AS WITH BOBBY FISCHER. SO HE MUST BE CALM, AS THE VILLAIN IS QUITE DELUDED ALREADY, ALBEIT BRILLIANT. THUS, THE GAME IS AFOOT, EACH KNOWING THE OTHERS’S COGNITIVE ABILITIES. MANY TWISTS AND TURNS WILL OCCUR, TO BOTH MEN, SO WHO WILL PREVAIL. WATCH FOR THE DENOUEMENT, I.E. UNRAVELING AND SEE. THE ENDING IS QUITE SHAKESPEAREAN. ENJOY.

Now that's more like it!
I had just gotten done with 'Kiss the Girls' which didn't impress me much, but I'm glad that didn't stop me from checking out its follow-up. This movie plays like it was under some kind of mandate to have a weird plot twist every five minutes and I'm glad the filmmakers didn't let little things like plausibility and restraint get in their way of doing so because 'Along Came a Spider' just gets more fun the more ridiculous it gets. Even an awful special effect in the beginning, an unconvincing Monica Potter, and Jerry Goldsmith rehashing his 'Rambo' score for the 200th time somehow just add to the charm. The cherry on top is one truly outrageous ending. It's not a classic but I admire 'Along Came a Spider's commitment to stepping on the gas pedal and never letting up.I was a little sad, though, when the credits revealed the little Russian boy was played by Anton Yelchin. He was so young. RIP.

Russian/US SECRET Service/and police and only one of them is HONEST "5 STAR"
I liked that this private school had extra security from the US Secret Service and looked well secured. Once the kidnapping took place and the criminal and the victim got away did surprise me. When the Secret Service protects children it is pretty intensive compared to adult care. The Secret Service have to secure the perimeter, establish a sign in meet and greet policy, secure the staff to some extent and have extra field agents present at all times with EYES on the candy. I was SUSPICIOUS once the escape took place under the watchful eye of the SS. The detective played by M Freeman was EXCELLENT! I did not see the kidnapper and the tow other law enforcement people (will not give them away) did surprise me, because the secret service would not have the wrong people in any setting without being vetted and screened HIGHLY in REAL life. The little girl was so SMART she had me laughing when the kidnapper was talking to her she said your a sick weird person etc......and she constantly tried to escape nearly making it off the boat and swimming. The ending will DOUBLE SURPRISE you as it did me. MORGAN FREEMAN as expected did excellent in the movie as the detective.

The plot is deep. The pace is medium. Some good twists. Acting was good and shooting was engaging. All-in-all a good movie for a weekend watch on Prime! Thanks!

From the novel except the wrong terrorists
A real cop out to have Nazis as the bad guys instead of Islamic Terrorists as in the original novel.
