1 star for a non-working hour meter. 5 stars for the speed in which it arrived.averaged out to 3 stars- amazon ad says waterproof, the instructions leads me to believe it's water resistant (it says to not leave it outside in the rain for too long). since its going into my boat for saltwater fishing, I now know it will last only one summer/fall.- the instructions show to hook up the + wire to NEG terminal and the - wire to the POS terminal (i chose not to follow this particular instruction).- last (but not least), i just found out it doesn't work. finding that out, I (reluctantly) followed the hookup instructions. it still doesn't work.I'll attempt a replacement. (hence the title of my post/reviewpete2of2MY BAD! the (2nd) meter works fine. it simply doesn't "tick" as time goes by. it runs as silently as a clock on the wall. I'll bet that the 1st meter is the same. amazon is waiting for me to send the first one back, but I'll hang on to it. i may need it next summer.that just leaves the wiring instructions and the claim of waterproof vs. water resistance.thank you amazon for the prompt shipment of a replacement. pete

Perfect fit easy to wire does what it is supposed to do

I had previously read some reports that some were coming with the faceplate upside down. This was not my case. It arrived in perfectly good shape, I'm using it to measure hours of operation of a diesel engine. Wired one terminal to the negative, one to the ignition switch, so as long as the ignition is ON it will start timing.Installation is one week old, so we'll see how long it lasts.

This hour meter worked great and is accurate. I tested the first hour with my watch while cutting the lawn, and it was working great. Until the 9 hour mark and it stopped working.I checked the wires, and I checked that I was getting power. I was. I do not have a wiring issue or power issue, yet the meter does not work after 9 hours.This fit perfect on my IH 782 Cub Cadet. It was easy to wire in and worked great for 9 hours.Not sure if I got a defective one or if the quality of these isn't made to stand up to a riding mower with the bumps and sudden stops and starts.Update: Great customer service. They are sending me out another unit to replace this one. I really appreciate that. I have updated my review to 5 stars.

The ring that secures them is really only meant for the thinnest of material, perhaps sheet metal. Would not work on my fibreglass dash on my boat. They could also use a small backlight but not a deal breaker. For the price they are an affordable way to track hours.

Replaced an old hour meter that was still working, but has broken glass. I connected the terminals correct and the meter ran for 2/10 of an hour and then stopped.It does make a clicking noise like something is moving, but the time does not advance.I double checked wiring and even installed my old meter (which still worked). Returning this ASAP, as it is Memorial weekend.Would be great to hear from the manufacturer or seller.. I DID hear from the seller and they were very friendly. I believe they would have replaced the meter, if they had the same model in stock.A+++ FOR GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE..

Very simple installation. Looks good, works good. I assume it is accurate. But I have not checked it with a watch. I just wish they sold it in white. We'll see how it holds up. Marine environment is tough on electronics, as you can see from the old one in the second photo.

Only one dislike. The mounting hardware is not able to hold the meter secure ,keeps slipping
