In My Mosque

Heartwarming
This is such a beautiful book. My kids and I love it. I think it's good for Muslim children, to let them see their own culture represented, especially if (like us), you lie in a community where there are very few Muslims. It's also good for anyone interested in learning a little bit about a mosque, to foster understanding. Highly recommended!

A Wonderful Invitation
The opening of IN MY MOSQUE counters the idea that Islam is monolithic. Hatem Aly’s illustrations are stunning and do a phenomenal job representing the “rainbow of colors” and abled and disabled bodies of Muslims. Author M.O. Yuksel’s warm welcoming text is an invitation to everyone to step inside the world of Islam, learn about what makes the religion unique, and to appreciate what people of all faiths can find in common. Through the specifics of the rituals depicted in the book, the author exemplifies the universals shared among us all; the need for ritual and spirituality and the importance of family and community. I especially love the page when the protagonist describes getting distracted during prayer; so many children can relate! The back matter provides a great resource to learn more about the religion of Islam, prayer in mosques, and some of the many famous historic mosques throughout the world. This book is a must-have to help dispel misinformation about Islam and to uplift children of all faiths.

Stunning book!
The primary word that arises for me when I think about this book is "breathtaking." Both the language and the illustrations create feelings of immense joy and peace. The Islamic faith is so often misrepresented and weaponized in the United States. IN MY MOSQUE provides a necessary and compassionate exploration into the truth of Islam, as well as glimpses into the inside of actual mosques. I was absolutely transported when I read I read this book, and my interest in visiting mosques and learning more has definitely increased. If that is true for me as an adult, imagine how it will be for children! This is a picture book that is elevated to magic by the perfect pairing between the gorgeous text and jaw-dropping illustrations. I could honestly live inside this book. :-) A MUST read!

Beautiful book!
What a beautiful book! This book filled me with peace and light. I have never been inside a mosque, but I have been in temples and cathedrals and have felt a closeness and connection to divinity. From this book, I can imagine that I would have similar feelings when visiting a mosque. The sense of community portrayed is wonderful. Hugs from aunties, passing out prayer mats, the chanting, the serving together—the is such a sense of connection portrayed in this book. The illustrations are gorgeous! Bright, colorful, patterned—it really is stunning! Reading this book I felt such a connection and sameness to Muslims. There is more that unites us, than divides us. I really hope you’ll give this book a look!

This Book is Phenomenal! An Accurate Depiction and Story of a Mosque
This book is beautiful. The message is sweet and true; the illustrations will wow you! I love how Hatem has a different mosque from different parts of the world on each page. The pictures showed children any kid will connect with. Mindy's story shows children enjoying the things they do in their mosque and then captures the feelings of warmth for all faiths. It is just what this world needs right now. A book that showcases how much we all are alike!I would highly recommend this book to everyone. Teachers and all children who want to learn about empathy and kindness.Zainab Khan

A great resource for those who want to learn more about Islam and mosques
Having visited many mosques around the world, it was great to see them visualized in the book. The author's lyrical writing style coupled with the gorgeous illustrations really capture the reader's attention. With a growing Muslim population in the U.S., there have been many new mosques under construction as well as those that some have tried to burn down unfortunately. I hope that children and their parents who are unfamiliar with their Muslim neighbors or who are curious about what takes place inside a mosque will read this book and understand that we have more in common than what sets us apart. I am looking forward to more books from this author.

A gentle introduction to Islam for children
Not only a beautiful, colorful book, but one that resonates with the joy and the happiness that a religion can bring. It certainly fills a much needed space in the spectrum of children's literature. Bringing a refreshing light on a controversial topic, it should serve as a starting point for discussion and research. Notes in the back of the book, All About Mosques, Glossary, Author's note and the list of historic mosques were a splendid addition.
