John Locke is a key to understanding the Founders' Thinking
Locke profoundly influenced America's Founders. To understand how they thought and arrived at their deductions concerning the limits and power of government, Locke is essential reading. His 2nd Treatise deals with the practical considerations of government. Locke is actually very readable and the reader's understanding of the source of government's power and the obligations of free men under that government are examined. He looks at concepts such as separation of powers, understanding legislative functions and prerogatives, and the extent and purpose of executive power. If you're a student of American History, Locke is essential reading precisely because he was highly esteemed by the Founding Fathers.

but is fun to read and catch up on some biblical information
This was written a long time ago and is still relevant. It is hard reading as the English is 17th century and the Latin is impossible. Thank you for translating Mr. Locke. The first treatise may be a little dated with all of the biblical references, but is fun to read and catch up on some biblical information. I think the idea of Divine Monarchy is gone for good, but it is necessary to the 2nd treatise. The second is as important today as it was in the 17th century and the educational opportunity is incredibly valuable.

Absolutely essential to understanding the thoughts and writings of our Founding Fathers
The real McCoy, Locke's treatises that inspired our whole modern liberal system of government. Not an easy read, in period prose, but intelligent and intelligible.

the flow of authority
I see where the founding fathers got the idea that the government's authority came from the people and not from God like the King thought. It is the opinion of the Courts that the government's authority comes from God and not from the people. That is why the States and the federal governments are sovereign.
