The hot can go in either side into the back so somewhat easier for setup. You do need to wait a minute when restarting power for these to work. I put one in and was fixing another outlet on same circuit. Restarted power and this light did not turn on. Pressing button and movement didnt work. Cursed and went to put the cover on a different outlet nearby. Came back to look at it again and the motion light immediately turned on and worked fine. So I would recommend giving it a minute to startup when putting them in for them to work. Can see someone getting discouraged quickly when it doesnt start right off. Had same kind of delay with the second switch. Both are working fine now. Lowest delay before automatically turning off is listed on switch at 10minutes but have not timed this myself. Anyway, would recommend the switch since it works fine overall. The motion detector is very sensitive and adjustable. The switches are easy to install and appear to be made very well. The price is awesome as well. I believe these switches are a good choice and I would recommend them to everyone looking to simplify entry and exit from a room where the light switch is in an inconvenient position. Now I don't need to reach over a chair to switch on a light, it comes on automatically and turns off when I leave. They have a common problem. *by D***M on Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2022* You cannot 'tap' the off button to turn off the attached device, and expect it to turn on automatically.I use 1 or 3 in my mechanical/storage/downstairs refrigerator room. I can choose to have it auto turn off after 15 seconds, or 5 minutes. It will not (due to hysteresis) adjust to anything in between. Since this is a long narrow room, 15 seconds is too short and it will turn off while I'm at the far end. Five minutes is a bit long, and I'd like to hit the off button as I leave. But, if I do that it won't turn on again when I later re-enter the room.2 of 3 is in my pantry. Here 15 seconds is fine. I cannot leave the sensor area until I leave the room entirely. Then it turns off 15 seconds later. Works very well in this application.3 of 3 is in a bathroom with shower and shower curtain. I set it for 5 minutes. If I'm there moving about, it's good, but won't turn off soon after I leave. I'd like to tap the off button, but then it won't turn on the next time I enter. 15 seconds isn't good because it is likely to turn off while I go to the bathroom or even shave at the mirror. And 5 minutes isn't ideal because while I'm showering, it goes off and I'm left in the dark. (Work around for that is to splash some water on the shower curtain. It sees that as movement, and the light stays on.)Again the cure would be to manually turn the light off when I'm ready to leave, but then I loose the auto-on when I re-enter.The obvious solution is to allow the sensor to turn off with a tap, and still come on when I re-enter.I bothered that they, TOPGREENER, didn't see that as a problem at least as much as I am that it doesn't work that way.
