READ THIS BOOK FIRST
If you are considering adding the steel mace to your training regimen, I highly recommend reading this book first. Get recommendations on what weight to get. I watched a video that recommended a weight, but Coach Vaughn would say something less. I'll try choking up on it, if that doesn't work, I may have to invest in another. Regardless, the explanations in this book a phenomenal! The tips go beyond what you might find in a video on YouTube. It has sample workouts, too, which I really like. So, again, before you take your first swing, I recommend reading this book all the way through.

It's Okay
I thought I would like this book based on Coach Vaughn's YouTube steel mace training videos. Unfortunately, I lot of his exercises are modified from kettlebells and lifting, and not historic steel mace moves. The exercises are okay for a workout, but not to learn a steel mace flow. Even then, the exercises aren't really that great. I still think Coach Vaughn is a good trainer, but this steel mace book is not the answer.

An Excellent book because of the exceptional amount of details, thanks!!
At first, I was intimidated by maces but with the proper instruction was able to use it confidently. This book helped me learn the basics and beyond to set up flows and mix up workouts that fit my needs. It demonstrates lite warmups, flexibility moves, and very challenging, strenuous workouts. It is a tool that can teach you a full-body workout, giving attention to proper mechanics to maximize your efficiency, strength, and safe quality moves. Strengthening your core, shoulders, arms, back, hips, obliques, way more than the basics while improving your endurance, explosive power, and flexibility.Try it out, it works out my stress, keeps my attention, and is really fun. I highly recommend this book, it has changed my workout making it engaging and a blast.

Best instruction you can get! Buy it now!
Best instruction for the Mace by a long shot. Coach Vaughn is literally the best personal trainer I have ever seen. Better than Pavel, Steve Maxwell, Steve Cotter, Scott Sonnon, etc. He also teaches steel clubs, wooden clubs, rings, and bodyweight exercises. He is better at teaching clubs than anyone else I've seen. He knows what he's doing, and trains you safely (my goals are mobility and durability). This is a really great book that delivers. Check out his website for other ebooks-I bought three of them and they are all fantastic. There really isn't another option once you check this guy out. He also has videos on YouTube.

Great introduction to mace training
Exactly what I was searching for as an introduction to mace training. Coach Vaughn emphasizes proper technique and includes more than enough exercises for the beginner to get started. I initially started looking at Onnit's website as a way to get into mace training but many of their videos seem to emphasize banging out many repetitions in a circuit like format with the instructors of the video demonstrating questionable form. In my opinion buy Onnit's maces and buy this book as your guide to get started.

More than just Steel Mace
In addition to covering a number of steel mace exercises, it has a number of drills to prepare you to handle the mace as well as some exercises involving kettlebells or clubs. Lots of useful information without the time-consuming advertising of trying to get it from Youtube.

Misses the mark
This book is basically a walk through of various exercises you can do with a steel mace. It has many grammatical errors and the exercise descriptions are often confusing. I will say that for the most part the photo examples are good; the book does a nice job "flattening" fundamentally 3D motions into a 2D page which I recognize is quite difficult. My biggest problem with this book is that the author makes no attempt to identify how or where a steel mace can/should fit into a serious strength and/or conditioning program. The author spend a page ranting about how 360s are improperly used by social media influencers, etc. but does not make any sort of case as to why a 360 belongs in a S&C program.I appreciate that this author attempted to model the book after Enter the Kettlebell, but I was disappointed in that I walked away without any clear sense of the author's philosophy on S&C or how the author would suggest utilizing a steel mace in conjunction with other things. In each of his books, Pavel makes a coherent case for why you should ________ (fill in the blank) but that was sorely missing here in my opinion. The author references being able to one arm press 100lbs or goblet squat a heavy kettlebell (impressive feats!) so clearly appreciates that for most serious athletes a steel mace will be used for accessory work, unless an extremely heavy mace is used. However, there is no discussion of when or why to increase the weight.Pavel outlines clear strength standards in Simple and Sinister--what are the respective mace standards? The fact that that's a silly question ought to demonstrate something about maces themselves, which unfortunately this author does not adequately acknowledge or address.
