Varathane One Step Stain & Polyurethane Spray

This is a beautiful color and I used it for a project and it turned out nicely and couldn’t be happier.

Complete and utter crap. Started spraying this on the table I was finishing, and got one really dark spot then the spray cut off. Tried the second can and it sprayed for a bit more then stopped. I had to get a pin and keep clearing the nozzle many times to finish the can, for both cans. Got a very blotchy spattered uneven finish. dissapointed even though I wasn't expecting an incredible finish in the first place. Do not buy

I love this stuff. I actually wipe it on and let it dry. Covers scratches and scrapes on my wood cabinets. Also sanded a small round table and brushed it on. You have to be sure to let it dry completely before adding another coat or it streaks.

Just what I expected. It's slightly misleading in that it says a one step process. Well it's 3 at minimum. 1. It takes an initial coat 2. after drying, a very light sanding (i actually prefer using 0000 steel wool, or sometimes I use 1000 grit sandpaper) 3. second coat to finish. the reason i think some people dislike this is the way it's applied. it appears to be too thin and it does look strange. but it you go in understanding that this is not spray paint it works. Just add a light coating for a base, covering the entire area well, but don't try to get a dark coat or you'll end up with pooling/drips. Just be light. a light sanding after a couple hours drying (probably best to wait 4 hours). then spray the final coat. you'll see right away the second coat is substantially darker and carries the right color. the one negative is this claims it provides a 'warm golden glow' which is certainly does not. in fact, it's surprisingly dull. but that's the trade off. it's so much easier to use this rather than brush on stain for my projects. I do wood carving. Relief carving, whittling and chip carving. I was concerned I wouldn't like the 'warm golden glow' it claims because on chip carving you don't want a gloss finish. it covers the cuts. but it actually better for me than brush on because it's dull. Then i use a satin finishing spray It's a give and take. a pray stain is simply not going to cover the way brushed does. But it makes it so much easier because you don't need a brush, a pan etc, there's no clean up or anything else. since I use a spray satin finish i now don't need a brush at all, and it's much quicker. i'm sold, no question P.S. this is not a very 'red' cabernet. The second coat definitely brings the red out, but other brands I've used with brushes have a deeper color but this provides a very nice color to it.

I was given an old antique five shelf stand that had age stains and the paint was chipped and worn here and there. I used sand paper to clean away the chipped edges and then I used this spray stain which gave my shelf a beautiful finished look. I was able to place the shelf on newspaper in the middle of my living room and sprayed it at least twice before getting the look I wanted. No strong fumes even though I had 2 fans blowing and my floor fan actually helped to dry it quickly. Also, there was not a lot of the stain on the newspaper. I was really impressed even after one coat and even more impressed at how quickly it dried...I thought I would have to leave it overnight for drying but I was able to use it after a couple of hours. It made my shelf look new...I couldn't stop looking at it because the finish leaves a beautiful shine. Highly recommended.

I was hesitant to buy this given the bad reviews online, but I bought it anyways because of the price and the small quantity as I had a small project - I am making a dice tray. I bought the Red Mahogany and used it on balsa wood that I first conditioned with Varathane wood conditioner. I initially expected the color to be a brighter red but the color I ended up with looks much better. It was a bit difficult to get an even coating and I had to do a few layers, but the end result speaks for itself.

Junk. It would not spray for even a full second before clogging. I see why there are no returns, they would never get rid of this junk. I feel totally screwed by Varathane.

Great stain and finish. Dries quick and the stain looks great. Nice even color. However, be aware that you will need to clean the nozzle after each application or it will dry and clog, then it will not spray. ALSO...This product comes from the RustOleum company. Amazon cannot offer warranty service. If you have problems like I have with defective broken nozzles on the can when it arrives (three times) you must notify the manufacture for refund and adjustments.

Good product. A bit expensive. But this allowed us to stain and polish furniture without needing to call a painter to do the same. So we ended up saving money there. The finish was excellent as well.

Very Good for do it yourself projects,yes even I had problem with the nozzle but I changed it with other nozzle received with 3M wood working 20 spary.

The nozzle was blocked completely, can't say how the product is bcoz nothing sprayed out.
