Niederegger Marzipantorte / Dark Chocolate 6.5 Oz

I'm usually very good about checking sizes before I order something, but I was so excited to see this I ordered before viewing all of the description photos. I was looking for a replacement for a marzipan cake loaf that I usually buy at the holidays but have been unable to find this year. Thought this would basically be the same size but round. Wrong. The PACKAGE is 5.5 inches square, putting the "cake" at about 5 inches in circumference and not even 1 inch tall. In addition, it's not a cake. It is a marzipan bar in a round form. Exactly like the bars that the same company produces. In fact, it seemed drier than those bars so the flavor and texture were not nearly as good as the bars. In short, don't buy this if you are expecting a cake and don't buy this because the bars are a much better value. So, don't buy this.

first, i ordered this for my mother’s 96th birthday. it was going to be a few days late and was a week later. okay, we can live with that because it claims to be an award winning torte, and since =she loves sweets and marizipan, we looked forward to its arrival, past her birthday… i recall that the previous description was for a “cake", but maybe the descriptive language may have been changed. folks: it is not a cake, not a pie, not even a torte. it is the size of a cookie …and flavor was disappointing. it is not by any stretch of my imagination that i can believe that the favorable reviews are true statements. keep reading to those reviews that tell the truth. this product is not worth the $18. it’s about the size of a ‘moon pie’ and does not taste as good. a disappointment for a senior’s birthday. Cannot order again.

NOT too sweet - NOT too bitter ...... A [mandatory] Special Treat - no matter what the mood ..... maybe add a few pieces of fresh fruit [kiwi, mango, papaya, pineapple ... even fresh guava .... something exotic - to contrast the subtle flavor of the marzipan]. Petite espresso on the side ....

Tasted wonderful. Was a little smaller and than I expected.

It is a little expensive for a 6oz cake but worth it! Generous chocolate and marzipan.

Ein Hochgenuss, halt Niederegger Qualität. Nicht so süß, aber hocharomatisch. Toll verpackt. Als Geschenk 🎁 eine schöne Sache, wenn man sie nicht doch selber vorher vernascht

I had bought this thinking it was a cake with a marzipan layer & covered in chocolate-this is just marzipan covered with chocolate.

Well this did not last long at all! A lovely large petit Four cake easily portioned out for 8 people. It was used with a good champagne at the beginning of the day and tasted divine:). Finished the evening with coffee + liquors. I see it is unavailable for now but will order again Niederegger when you can supply. There is a fruited version but the plain one is best accompanying the champagne as a fast tonic for virus aftermath. Not sure if I should recommend this in case there are none left to order.....
