Almost couldn't figure out how to turn it on and off.
This is a rewrite on this review. I was about to send this back, or contact Brio since I have a disability that keeps me from being able to get to the UPS store, and Amazon charges if you need a UPS pick up. A lot of people have rated this one star because they can't figure out how to turn it on and off. It took three people in my family to figure it out. The directions say to push down on the smokestack, implying that the smoke stack is a button, which it isn't. That's misleading. The switch is actually in the front wheels. If you are holding it, push up towards the engine on the front wheels, and it will turn on, push up again, and it will turn off. Pushing the smokestack just makes you push the part of the engine down that needs to engage that switch in the front wheels. When I got mine, when I put the battery in, it turned on. I'm blind, so didn't realize that it took a AA. I put a AAA in, and it worked. AAAs are the same voltage as AAs, but AAs last longer. If you don't have a AA and your child is desperate to play with it, a AAA will work for a shorter amount of time because the spring is so long. One of those funny and happy accidents. I also read that some other people were under the impression that it made sounds. Nowhere in the description does it say that it does, because it doesn't. If you're looking for one that makes sounds, this one's not for you. I read somewhere else that somebody thought that it was excessively noisy. It's actually no more noisy than any of the other battery operated Brio train engines. I hope this review addresses a lot of other people's problems with this engine. I hope it keeps you from having to send it back needlessly. I wrote to Brio and I will call them tomorrow and let them know that they need to be a little bit more specific, when they talk about how to turn it on and off, because my family is not the only one who had trouble, judging by all the one star reviews that I read, and before rewriting my review, gave. We were just more persistent.

Brings your magnetic trains to life!! Connects to many other trains!
The media could not be loaded. We LOVE this train! 🚂 before this, my little one had a whole collection of magnetic trains that were practically useless because who wants to play with a train that doesn’t move?! We bought this and it easily connected to a # of his other, randomly purchased magnetic trains to pull them along his wooden train tracks and voila! A fully operational train, just like that! It comes with the red train, which is AA battery operated, and a blue passenger rail car with Mickey Mouse included! Super easy to use - just press down on the front stack of the red car to turn on and press again to turn off. Only issue that is no fault of the product is that we often hear it still running somewhere in the house from when my little one turned it on and never turned it off, but if anything, it’s a testament to the battery life in this thing! We’ve had it for months and only had to change the battery once (which you can easily do with a screwdriver to pop the top of the red train off). If you have a pile of boring magnetic trains that you want to bring to life, I HIGHLY recommend this train set!

Not Really Battery Operated
As with most Brio products, this Mickey Train is super-cute. Packaging states it is battery-powered and instructions are included, however, it looks as though the manufacturer has changed this to a "non- battery-powered" toy. The case for accessing the battery is permanently glued down (you cannot remove the philips screw) and the push button for on-off is non-existent. It's still adorable, but not as advertised. I have been purchasing Brio for over 40 years and the quality has changed quite a bit. Just know that the plastic used to make these cute characters will actually disintegrate over time as the pieces age. They are cute, but don't last.

Pricey
Obviously the Disney name makes this more pricey. Train works okay but the button was stuck so you hit the item to turn it off/on so bad ease of use. Came with expected pieces. Battery life was not great but kids also couldn’t turn off as noted above so continued to run.

Great quality.. on / off switch works!
I don’t typically do reviews but I feel like I have to due to people complaining about the on off switch. The switch functions just like any other Brio electric train. You have to put it on the track or ground and press on the front. The people who are saying there is no switch are not doing this properly. The quality is high just like any other Brio product.

Do not recommend
This item being brand name and for the cost it was very disappointing. It is extremely loud and it runs right off of the tracks it was built for. My son has several trains like this and none of them have trouble staying on the tracks. Some reviews state it can’t be turned off without removing the battery, it can, it’s not a button you have to put pressure on the whole train to turn it on and off.The packaging was basically crushed when it arrived having nothing to do with the box it was shipped in.The product is cute but that’s the only positive thing I can say about it. I do not recommend.

Best one yet!
We've had a couple of different versions of a battery train, and Brio is the best so far! It fits all the wooden train sets we have including the Orbrium and Ikea sets. It pulls the trains up and down the tracks no problem! My kids also like to just leave it running, and forget about it. I have found that it doesn't run through batteries even though they do that.
