Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Comfortable and nice looking.
I wear a size 10.5 so I ordered the size 11. They feel somewhere between a 10.5 and 11 a little long and a little wide. Since I have been wearing them I have gotten used to the off size, its actually nice to have a little room in the shoe. I also added insoles that normally do not fit in my shoes and fit perfect in these. I love how light they are and the soles are very flexible and comfy even without the insoles in them. The style is exactly what what I was looking for , I love canvas shoes!

A 1/2 size is a 1/2 size. There's no way around this.
I thought I'd give this company another try after not buying them for 25 years or so. This particular style is great looking and light weight. The unfortunate outcome of this purchase is that they are true to size. This doesn't bode well for people like me that wear a 1/2 size. The 9 is a 9 , 10 is a 10 and so forth. There is no "buy a size down" rule. I did this and my feet were cramped. I.wear a 9.5 and thats what I needed. I tried to "settle" in hopes that it would work. But in the end, it was just a waste of money. So if you wear a 1/2 size, look for a brand that makes 1/2 sizes.I gave this 2 stars because it is a well made shoe. But unfortunately this company refuses to change its policy on sizes.

Indestructible Work Chucks
Fits just like a Chuck Taylor high top. Perfect if you like Chucks and have been wanting a sturdy work version. Pallet jacks have ran over them; metal has snagged them; constant abuse to them: no holes, tears or rips. Only blemishes have been from grease and chemicals. Unfortunately the soles are not as non-slip as the more industrial Dr. Martens are. That is the reason for four stars. A definite repurchase for me.

Buy these shoes!!
I've had these a little over a year now. I wear them everyday. And I wear them all day. My feet never hurt. They don't get wet. They're the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. I definitely recommend. ✌🏻

Looks great, doesn't last.
This is my second pair of these shoes in about 9 months. They both ripped where the rubber meets the canvas, on the outside of the foot. Very comfortable, looks great, but they WILL rip. Doc Martens are supposed to be one of the most durable shoes/boots ever made, but these do not fit the bill. I was even looking at the leather version of these, the Tobias, but other reviews also show these ripping in the same spot. Just not worth the money.

Comfortably wide, great for all day wear
A great shoe! I've worn Doc's with the traditional last in the past but always found them to be a bit narrow (my feet measure as an E width). These are comfortably wide, even with socks on--definitely a noticeably wider toe box with the comfort last used in these styles. It's a welcome change for someone with wide feet!

Great shoe, great review please read!
They look great, I can skate in them, I can hike in them, and my girlfriend loves them. They we're stiff and weird at first, but once I broke them in they we're golden. I have more on the way and excited to get them. They're not for warmth obviously so being out in 12 degree weather for 5 hours you might be cold in them. READ MATERIAL DESCRIPTION, because I saw reviews complaining about that, when if you know what canvas is you should know how warm they are, that's on you not Dr. Marten. In conclusion I love these, people WILL compliment you on them I promise.

doc martens alfie boot 8m us
Ahhh...love doc marten. There quality is wonderfull as well as the fit and finish. This are my go to shoes for whatever. The are stylish as well as rugged. The fit well in the ankle and toes. If i use a thi v k so v k they can be tight in the sides though. So i tend to use thin socks. These are good all day and then some. Because these a t e canvas and not leather i would not use them for heavy duty hiking or were stability of the ankle is important. Not to say these are not stable its just that te material doesnt have the resilence of leather. Otherwise i lovem.

The shape of these is kind of all wrong. They are too narrow at the toe. I have blisters as a result.Could not find a wide version.Bad design although they look nice.
