holds 1 week of supplies -- not perfect but it gets the job done and cheaper than the others
I wanted something that would keep all my supplies in one place and also carry several days worth. But I also wanted something portable and as small as possible while meeting the other goals.I dinged this one star because it did not come with the advertised sharps container (similar sharps containers are available for about $1 each qty 10). Also the lancet pouch does not have velcro so the lancets tend to slide out. Everything else was as described and the construction is high quality.I'm new to this, my meter came with a case, as most do, but there was no room for the syringes and insulin. It was inconvenient not to have a place to put them. So I went in search of a case that could hold everything. I think that I read every ad on amazon for cases. Some of those cases have tons of features but they are also huge... the size of a book. I wanted something smaller. This is the case I came up with and it meets my expectations. It was a tight fit, but I was actually able to get all of my supplies plus 10 syringes crammed into this case. I've read some reviews of other cases where people complain that a case that was supposed to hold a 2 week supply only held enough for two days... they even go so far as to accuse the company of false advertising. But reading further I found that there is a wide variation in how much people need each day. Some people are doing 5 injections per day and probably an equal number of tests. I only need 1 injection per day, so this case actually holds more than a week of supplies for me.There are slots for 4 bottles of insulin. The straps for the insulin and the test strips are exactly the right size. There is plenty of room for alcohol swabs and a log book -- it even comes with a very nice log book. One feature that they don't describe is that in the main compartment there is a piece of double-back tape with velcro. The idea is that you can attach it to your meter and then you can velcro your meter in place. Nice concept but I'm reluctant to try it, suppose I get a different meter? Also it is likely to block the battery compartment of the meter. The pocket for the lancets has enough friction that it is not that big of a problem. But I plan to switch to a FastClix which doesn't use lancets, so it's a non-issue.As far as the missing sharps container, I have a much better solution, it's the BD Safe-Clip Needle Clipping and Storage Device. It holds about 1000 needles and costs less than 10 disposable sharps containers. After you remove the needle you can throw the rest of the syringe away in the normal trash and about once every two years you take the Safe-Clip to a sharps disposal, my doctor is not willing to accept syringes but is willing to accept the safe clip because it is so much smaller and is at most a once a year item. However this does not solve the problem of disposing of the lancets... still working on that.another really good thing about this case is that it is long enough to hold an ordinary size pen, something that was a real pain with my smaller meter case... you are supposed to write in a log book but you don't have any place to put the pen, well with this case you do. Like I said, everything -- except pills -- in one very portable place.-------------------------Update: I've been using it for over a month now and am very happy with it. The pocket for the lancets doesn't have velcro so ordinary lancets do fall out which is mildly annoying. However, I did switch to using the FastClix Lancing Device and the pocket is just big enough to hold 5 of the barrels (enough for a month), and because the barrels are larger then lancets they don't fall out. So that problem is totally solved, as I suspected that it would be.The only other thing that makes this case less than perfect is that the zipper on the insulated side of the case does tend to get stuck on the first corner. However I found that by pulling outward on the zipper, away from the case, that this helps to avoid getting caught, (also try putting your finger inside and gently pushing on the zipper). Other than that, this case is perfect for me.Also the BD Safe-Clip (available separately) works great! I highly recommend it, this is much better than using a normal Sharps Container. It finally got hot enough around here for me to be able to test the freezer pack. It worked fine, probably lasted about 6 hours, by then the outside temperature was cool enough that it didn't matter anymore. One thing to know about the freezer pack is that it freezes solid in whatever shape you put it so be sure to lay it on a flat surface otherwise it won't fit in the pouch. I really like the little thermometer they put in the insulin compartment, seems fairly accurate and is easy to read. If you are in a hot place you should probably get several of the freezer packs (available separately).Bottom line: If you are looking for a case that can hold 10 syringes (just barely), plus all your other supplies and is compact and portable... this is the one to get.update: actually, if you pack additional syringes and alcohol pads separately then this case actually holds a one month supply of everything else, which is great if you are going on a trip.
