GREAT chair, stunning design, buy now — discontinuing maybe
Seems the company is slowly halting their unfinished furniture lines, sad to say, because after assembling 10 chairs in two different designs I think they are superb — beautifully designed, solidly manufactured, choice wood (feels almost like maple, not at all like soft pine), so smoothly finished I never felt the need to sand. BTW very comfortable, for my tall torso and not-so-great back, the mission side chair was slightly better than the cafe chair, but both are among the best all-wood chairs I’ve sat in.Many reviewers who assembled this chair say “things don’t fit right.” I know what their problem is — in the slats under the chair that stabilize the chair, you may THINK two pieces are the same and interchangeable, but they are NOT. The instructions are not quite sufficient, and when you build the chair, and you are ready to put in those pieces to form the H shape under the chair, look veeerrry carefully to figure out which goes on the right, which on the left, what orientation, etc. If you are careful, you will have no problem at all, and you will end up with one of the nicest chairs you can imagine. If you are not careful, chances are 50/50 you’ll get it wrong.FYI, I found a great way to finish the chairs was Lowes’ oil based “cabinet and furniture” paint, (I did 3 coats), followed by a Minwax oil based polyurethane (2 coats there.) Malted Milk color, left the seat stained with Ipswitch Pine but not painted. Wow, gorgeous. If you want the seat and chair to be two different colors, I Suggest you assemble the chair but do not attach the seat yet, finish both parts, then attach the seat. The seat is screwed on, and has no pre-drilled holes, so do it very carefully, make sure the seat is pressed against the back of the chair, make sure it is even left-right. It’s actually much better with no pre drilled holes, lets you finesse it yourself. Also, note, as you assemble and bolt on the two front legs, check and make sure the top of the legs are flush with the skirting for the seat ... do that and the whole chair will come out nice and even.My first chair took 40 minutes to assemble. After that, 20 minutes tops. Had fun. Am proud. Sit well.

We love them!!
These chairs are excellent quality. They do need to be assembled; as long as you have minimal building skills; and common sense, they are easy to put together! Sturdy and comfortable! They are sanded to perfection; ready to stain. We love them.

Good quality at a good price
I have purchased a few pieces from International at this point, including a console and a student desk. They and these chairs are all well designed and executed, and the packaging is well done to ensure the product arrives in the US in excellent condition. My complements to your shipping department, please. The wood used, rubber tree wood if I have it right, is a user's dream. It is heavy, dense and hard, and takes shaping well. All detail is clean and crisp. I understand that these are plantation trees that are harvested for lumber when they no longer produce rubber, and I appreciate the environmentalism. Because the wood is so dense, finishing has been a bit tricky. I have stained the console, and after preconditioning it took three coats of Minwax stain to get anything resembling a good result, so I would would recommend dying instead of trying stain. The desk and one of the chairs got just semi-gloss polyurethane and I do like the result. The grain is actually quit nice. The second chair is going to get some tung oil as an experiment and I will update with results.Overall, if you are looking for good quality furniture that will stand up well, I would suggest you consider these products. So far, I plan on using International Products should I ever need new unfinished furniture in the future. Highly and unreservedly recommended.

These chairs are great. We have had ours for 2 years
These chairs are great. We have had ours for 2 years. I coated them with Benjamin Moore paint (used a brush, took a while but the finish is far more durable than it would be had I used a sprayer). I get lots of compliments on them, they are still sturdy after 2 years of every day use. Assembly is assembly - it will be easy if you are mechanically inclined, difficult if you aren't. Totally worth the price, considering these types of chairs can run $250 a piece. They were not completely bare wood, there was a sort of very minimal factory finish on them, but they do need to be properly finished with a stain or paint - I wouldn't use them as they are out of the box. These chairs were one of our best Amazon purchases.

Nice chairs but some spots have to be sanded to be stained
I was looking for unfinished oak chairs, but couldn't find many, and the ones I did find were pretty expensive, so I got several of these. They're nice chairs. They're made of rubber wood. The one downside is when staining you WILL have several spots on each chair that don't absorb the stain. Those spots have to be sanded and re-stained, sometimes several times. But, with some extra work for those spots the finished chairs look good.
